BOXING: ABELL BLASTS OUT ZIMNOCH IN THIRD

“Minnesota Ice” Joey Abell (34-9, 32 KO’s) knocked out Krzysztof Zimnoch (22-1-1, 15 KO’s) last night in Radom, Poland before the end of the third round. Abell shocked Poland, and maybe the rest of the world, but Minnesota boxing fans and team Abell predicted this result when the fight was announced. Zimnoch was tough and brought the fight to Abell so the prediction wasn’t a knock to the Polish born fighter. But Abell is clearly at the top of his game now both physically and mentally. It has raised his ceiling mightily, and with it the expectations from those that have been watching his transformation over the last year. Abell looks focused and ready for a big time shot in the heavy weight division.
Despite Zimnoch coming forward from the start, Abell was controlling the fight and ahead. He landed some hard punches throughout the first three rounds. The end came when Abell landed a right-left and then another right to the head of Zimnoch that sent the home country fighter to the canvas. Unable to regain his senses, the fight was stopped and Abell declared the winner at 2:10 of round three.
