AKALE DEFEATS BYRD AT ELEMENT GYM

Sona “Slink Proper” Akale (now 6-0, 4 KO’s) of Saint Paul, MN won a unanimous decision over Jacksonville, Florida’s Andre Byrd (now 8-13, 1 KO) in a jr. Middleweight bout on Saturday night at Element Gym.

Akale won wide behind constant pressure and heavy punches by scores of 80-72 79-73 79-73 and the well traveled Byrd brought a style which made it difficult to catch flush. Things got heated between the two on multiple occasions but referee Mark Nelson did well to keep things from boiling over.

Minnesota cruiserweight Thomas Jenkins (now 0-0-1) fought to a split draw in his pro boxing debut against Tim Haley (now 0-1-1) of Milwaukee, WI. It was an action packed bout with both fighters giving a good showing for the crowd.

Watertown, South Dakota’s Zach Hill (now 3-3) won a majority decision over Saint Paul, Minnesota’s Tremeire Hollie (now 0-1) in a welterweight bout. Final scores read 39-37, 39-37, 38-38.

Gavino Guaman and Davonzell Patterson entertained the crowd in a fun exhibition bout to kick off the action.
