TRUAX GOES 12 WITH PLANT, SIMS SHOWS WELL IN DECISION LOSS

“Golden” Caleb Truax (31-5-2, 19 KO’s) lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Caleb Plant (21-0, 12 KO’s) on Saturday night in a bid to win back the IBF World Super Middleweight title he once held. Plant won every round on the cards with speedy and sharp punches. Truax may not have won the rounds on the cards but he showed toughness, grit and landed some hard right hands and jabs (plus a signature uppercut) which he has become known for throughout the years. Bloodied and swollen, Truax continued to trade punches with Plant and opened up more as the fight went on particularly in the fifth and eighth rounds. The former champ Truax continued to fight and seek a fight ending shot until the final bell. Final scores read 120-108, 120-108, and 120-108. The fight took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

At 37 years old and 38 professional fights on his record rumors of retirement spread social media following last nights bout. If this had been Truax’s last fight, he would have ended a 14 year celebrated run as one of Minnesota’s most influential boxers to step in the ring. In all, Truax has challenged for a world title on four separate occasions and faced some of the toughest competition that could have been put in front of him. However, Truax confirmed with Minnesotaboxing.com that he has no plans to retire with big fight options still out there. And Minnesota fight fans couldn’t be happier.

“I want to thank my fans for all the support” said Truax. “I’m not going out without a win at The Armory”!

In other weekend action, Marlin Sims (8-1, 4 KO’s) of Minneapolis lost a six round decision to Domnique Crowder (8-0, 7 KO’s) in the night’s main event in South Carolina. Sims was in good spirits following the six round battle. “I didn’t get the victory but we had a nice effort. We understand what we did incorrectly and we will bounce back. We will keep working and come back even stronger than before.”

Sims had been out of action for a year but Trainer Alfonso Vazquez told Minnesotaboxing.com that there are positives to take away despite the loss.

“It was a great experience for Marlin” said Vazquez “ (His opponent) was just a little more confident and stayed busy. Marlin will definitely grow from this fight. He has to be confident in his skills and let those hands go. Marlin was definitely the stronger fighter and was never hurt during the fight.”
