BOXING: Truax-Quillin 2 Set For August 31

Former world champions “Golden” Caleb Truax (30-4-2, 19 KO’s) and Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (34-1-1, 23 KO’s) get a chance to settle unfinished business on August 31st. A second round clash of heads last April during the first meeting in Minneapolis left Truax with a deep cut and bloody which led to the fight being stopped. The result was a no contest, leaving no winner and spectators shell shocked. With the cut now healed, Truax says he is excited to get back in the ring with Quillin.

“I’m very excited to get back in the ring with Peter Quillin.” Said former IBF Super Middleweight Champion Truax to MN Fight News. “It was a major buzz kill last time how the fight ended. The armory was rocking and the atmosphere was crazy. I can’t wait to replicate that again August 31st.”

The Armory in Minneapolis appears to be the destination venue after a capacity crowd was on hand last April. Premier Boxing Champions, FS1, and fight fans have fallen in love with The Armory which is part of the reason we believe the rematch will happen in Minnesota. Boxrec.com is already listing it as such (see here). The Barclays Center in Quillin’s hometown of Brooklyn, New York is also rumored to be a possibility.

As was the first meeting between Truax and Quillin, round two’s winner on August 31st will earn the mandatory challenger spot to IBF Super Middleweight champion Caleb Plant’s title. Plant makes his first title defense of the crown Truax once held next month against Mike Lee. That fight will be televised on Fox Sports PPV as an undercard match to Manny Pacquiao vs. Keith Thurman.

Super Welterweight Erislandy Lara (25-3-3, 15 KO’s) will face Ramon Alvarez (28-7-3, 16 KO’s) in the other half of August’s PBC on Fox’s double feature. Stay tuned for updates.
