JungleBoy Zach Walters won by second round tko over veteran Marris Virgil last night in the main event at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, Mn. Virgil set the tone by being physical and tying up while throwing haymakers. This was not going to be a boxing match if he had his way. Walters didnt seem to mind mixing things up however and sent Virgil to the canvas early with an overhand right to the head. Virgil got to his feet with a hurt look on his face but he immediately came back with a hard uppercut that backed Walters up. After more hard punches with bad intentions from both fighters, a left and right hook found Virgil’s body and sent him down once again. Virgil rose again but was put right back down to one knee by a right hook to the body. Even after all the trips to the canvas, Virgil still looked dangerous with his unpredictable power shots.
Walters came out jabbing in the second round. A short left hook put Virgil where else? On his seat for the third time. It was actually a hard left jab thrown by the JungleBoy that forced referee Denny Nelson to put an end to the fight at 1:10 of the second round.
Leo Moreno outworked Harold Brazier in every way going on to pound out a fourth round tko victory. Moreno was just too relentless with his body and head shots that Brazier was unable to really get anything going of his own throughout the fight. By the third round, Brazier was starting to look worn as Moreno turned up the power on his punches. Brazier never gave up trying to fight back but could only land one nice shot to every three or four offered from Moreno. The crowd cheered the efforts of both fighters at the end of each round. At 1:15 of the fourth round referee Mark Nelson had seen enough and waived the fight off. At stake were the Mid American Super Welter (vacant) USA Mid West Super Welter (vacant)
Another one of our states top prospects Ko Kenny Kost kept his record perfect with a first round knockout of Jack Taylor. A hard overhand right to the head dropped Taylor. He was counted out at 1:10 by Denny Nelson.
Starting the night off was Rochesters Raphael Butler. Butler was just too big and strong for his opponent Harold Johnson. Butler dropped Johnson with a thudding left hook to the body, something that is getting familiar to a Raphael Butler bout. Mark Nelson stopped the match at only :57 seconds into the fight. Johnson’s pride had him complaining furiously at the stoppage but he was taking a beating.
