With less than a week to go before fight night, Roman Cruz (2-1), fighting out of Grand Forks, ND has withdrawn from his scheduled bout against veteran Rondale Hubbert, citing flu-like symptoms as the reason for pulling out. Cruz has expressed interest in rescheduling the matchup for a later date, but the timing of the withdrawal has drawn criticism from Hubbert and Ignite. The two men were to meet in a 4-round 142 pound bout as part of the Ignite Fights 108 pro/am boxing card on May 17, 2025 in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Hubbert (16-36-3), now fighting out of Duluth, MN has been deep in training camp, shared his disappointment: “It’s really unfortunate when you train hard to prepare and your opponent pulls out. I know things happen like this, we get sick, but I don’t think this is that type of situation. I feel like Cruz just started to feel the pressure as the fight got closer and decided he didn’t want to go through with the fight—and that’s unacceptable.”
Promoters are now racing to find a suitable replacement opponent so Hubbert can still compete on the card. An announcement is expected soon.
