TRUAX KICKS OFF 2017 THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

 Osseo, Minnesota’s “Golden” Caleb Truax (27-3-2, 17 KOs) is set to battle Silver Spring, Maryland’s truax_faceJoshua Okine (29-7-1, 17 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round co-main event bout this Saturday night at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis. It will be Minnesota’s first pro boxing show of the new year. The main event has Phil “The Drill” Williams (15-9-2, 14 KOs) of Minneapolis and Mengistu “The Dynamic Warrior” Zarzar of Brooklyn Park, MN fighting for the Minnesota State Cruiserweight championship that belongs to Williams.

Truax has faced former Olympians, former world champions, and challenged for a major world title to name a few of his highlights throughout his 9 year pro career. The Minnesota State Middleweight champion Truax says he envisions a big 2017 which starts for him this Saturday, January 7th.

“I’m excited to be fighting at home in Minneapolis for the first time in 3 years” said Truax. “The show looks to have some solid match ups between local guys and a few talented Seconds Out fighters from out of town. Joshua Okine looks to be a pretty durable and crafty southpaw, so I am preparing for a tough fight that may go the distance. I’m expecting to get some rounds in, but will obviously look for a KO if it presents itself.”

Newcomer Uriel Lara will make his pro debut in a 4 round welterweight bout.  The 20 year old Lara resides in Coon Rapids, MN and is scheduled to box tough journeyman Fred Thomas (1-13-2) of Davenport, Iowa. Minnesota fans might remember Thomas for his bouts against Cerresso Fort and Mohammed Kayongo. Caleb Truax also shared a few words on his gym mate Lara.

“Uriel is a talented kid. I’ve been in the gym with him since he was about 8 years old, and have watched him grow into a solid pro prospect. He has been punching like a grown man since he was about 14 and has improved his boxing steadily over the years. I watched him devastatingly knock out many guys in the amateurs, so it will be exciting to see what he can do with the little gloves on!

Two good looking 8 round super lightweight bouts complete Saturday night’s action. Stan “The Man” Martyniouk (16-2, 3 KO’s) of San Carlos, California faces Baltimore, Maryland’s Justin Savi (29-8-2, 19 KO’s). Martyniouk’s first visit to a Minnesota ring took place against Jeremy McLaurin back in 2015 in Carlton, MN. He then returned in April of 2016, facing Lionel Jimenez in Minneapolis.

Seconds Out Promotions boxer Livian Navarro (4-0, 2 KO’s) of Miami, Florida has a big test when he faces upset minded veteran Gilbert Venegas (15-25-5, 8 KO’s) of East Moline, Illinois. The Cuban born prospect Navarro will be bringing his talent and youth when he faces Venegas, who has upset a number of up and comers over the years.

The Hyatt Regency is located at 1300 Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis. Tickets start $35 and can be bought ahead of time at www.sofights.com or at the door on fight night. Doors open at 6pm and the fights start at 7pm on Saturday, January 7.
