QUICK RESULTS FROM THE HYATT IN MNPLS

Professional boxing returned to the Hyatt in Minneapolis, MN on Saturday night with the action being presented by Ignite Fights. Full report and details to come.

Main Event – Heavyweights, 6 Rounds
Colton Warner (6-1, 4 KO’s) of Pine City, MN defeated Tommy Matlon (2-2, 1 KO) of Columbia Heights, MN by first round TKO at 2:22 of the first round. Warner dropped Matlon three times before the opening round stoppage came. Matlon came out straight away and landed a hard left-right to the head of Warner which forced Warner to bring heavy punches of his own rather that box or feel the action out. Warner looked comfortable letting loose and seizing control with hard jabs and right hands. A left-right to the head dropped Matlon and showed off the one punch power Warner has. Matlon rose to his feet but was dropped again by another powerful right. A left to the head followed by a hurtful right to the ribs delivered by Warner dropped Matlon for what would be the third and final time as referee Mark Nelson had seen enough, stopping the fight at 2:22 of the opening round.

Warner, who entered the ring with a Santa Claus hat and all red told ring interviewer Caleb Truax that he was happy to turn up the pressure early and show off his explosiveness. Warner hopes to be back in action soon and says he’d like to be fighting every month or two if given the opportunity.
