MMA: “THE MOHAWK MENACE” SAM HERNANDEZ AND TOMMY PETERSEN BATTLE IN MISSOURI THIS SATURDAY

26 year old Sam “The Mohawk Menace” Hernandez (2-0) of Sleepy Eye, MN meets David Onama in a pro MMA bout this Saturday night at the Truman Memorial Building in Independence, Missouri. Kansas City Fighting Alliance promotion confirmed with us that the “Fight 4 The Troops” card will be streamed live via PPV on MMA Futures beginning at 7 PM. Astonishingly, Hernandez’ 24-fight amateur career was kick started while learning to fight in a garage with friends. Now six years later, Hernandez is one of the Midwest’s most exciting fighters and he and those teammates have formed the respected “Fight Squad”. Hernandez seeks professional win number three on Friday night in a tough fight in enemy territory.

Also competing out of state on the show will be Minnesota heavyweight Tommy Petersen. Petersen was a star wrestler for Lakeville South who went on to wrestle for North Dakota State University. Now (3-0) as an amateur mixed martial artists, the Spartan Martial Arts heavyweight attempts to stay unbeaten tomorrow night. Petersen, who’s wins have come on the big stage of Legacy Fighting Alliance, was slated to fight KCFA heavyweight champion Brian Wilkerson (5-2 amateur) until the Missouri fighter was forced to pull out due to injury. He now faces Jordan Franks (6-15-1 amateur) of Iowa for the KCFA interim title.

Hernandez defeated James Cowen last March in Austin, Minnesota for Driller Promotions. He then took about a month off before beginning serious training again. Hernandez has been working towards this specific fight against Onama for a month and stated he’s added some new things to his arsenal. Onama hails from Missouri and went (11-0) as an amateur while currently remaining undefeated as a pro (2-0). “The Mowhawk Menace” Hernandez has become a fan favorite with his all or nothing style and willingness to fight anyone.

“After my last fight I had to recover for about a month due to some welts all over my head” said the all-action fighter. “Since then I’ve been doing more jiu-jitsu and taking classes with Clay Uddley for striking and grappling. That was before I accepted this fight. Since then I’ve added weightlifting and a lot more running and cycling.”

“I’ve seen a few different videos where my opponent dominated a guy on the ground and finished him via strikes. In another he was picking his opponent apart for all three rounds for a unanimous decision. So I expect a battle no matter where the fight leads.”

“I would like to thank Scott Cutbirth for allowing me to fight under a card dedicated to the troops. Also Clay Uddley for all the training.”

You can catch Hernandez, Petersen and the full card at 7 PM Saturday, July 27, 2019 at www.mmafutures.com via PPV.
