MMA: MCKINNEY, KAPEL PICK UP ROAD WINS ON SATURDAY

Lloyd Mckinney (10-5) of La Crosse, Wisconsin picked up his second big win in a row at the St. Croix Casino in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin on Saturday night. McKinney defeated the #6 rated Wisconsin flyweight Gonzalo Ponce (3-2) by guillotine choke in the third round. McKinney is the #9 rated 135 pound fighter in the latest Minnesota rankings by www.mnmmanews.com.

“I fought a very game and durable opponent in Gonzalo Ponce” said McKinney when recapping the fight for MN Fight News. “I was able to secure a guillotine choke midway through the 3rd round. I felt confident coming into the fight with the game plan my coaches and I put together. I was able to execute and although he put me in danger a couple times with submission attempts, I defended his attacks and found a way to get the momentum back in my favor and continue with the offensive game plan. I would like to thank my training partners for helping me prepare for the fight, my family and friends that came out to support, and the staff and management team at IronWorks Training Center.”

Also, 185 pounder Andrew Kapel (now 11-6) of Minneapolis, MN scored a big victory on Saturday night in Colorado as he stopped hometown fighter Adam Stroup (now 10-5). Kapel won by rear naked choke in the opening round.
