Undefeated welterweight Justus “Swift Justus” Pomeroy (5-0, 4 KO’s) of Winona, MN will box southpaw Thomas Allen (4-41-1, 4 KO’s) of Missouri on Saturday, February 7 at the Teamsters Hall in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Extreme Maximus Boxing put the four round bout together for the show. Pomeroy says that there are 15 bouts which begin at 4 PM CST with his being bout number 11. Duluth, Minnesota’s Isayah Smith will also see action. The bout can be streamed live on www.BXNGTV.com
Like always, Pomeroy had a great camp leading up to fight number 5 as he again traveled the state while having others visit Longevity Boxing Gym in Winona for work. “Swift Justice” isn’t just a boxer, but a huge supporter and fan of the local boxing scene. He studies big fights around the nation and considers himself a student of the game.
“Fortunately for me, we do have good sparring. We sparred with Eddy Valenzuela and Gavin Hendrickson. We’ve done some work with Leo Medel which is really great. Some of the other gyms we’ve worked with are Padilla’s Boxing from Dexter, MN. Kame House in Arcadia, Wisconsin, Iron Works from Holman, Wisconsin. Even Garrett Neal paid us a visit from North Side Boxing. Then of course Dom who was one of our Longevity Boxing members. Damion Morales AKA Dom. He’s at Ford’s Gym now in Wisconsin. He moved but made the trip for some work. He’s a southpaw which was good work. He’s slippery, slick with a lot of power.”
“We have a few moves that my coach Bill Pomeroy my grandfather has been working with me on. I’m excited to capitalize on some of those moves on Saturday night.”
Pomeroy weighed in last night at 153.25 lbs. while Thomas weight 153.75 lbs. at last night’s weigh-in’s. Pomeroy agreed to move up a weight class to secure the fight but still plans on competing at welterweight in the future.
“We are ready. The weight cut went amazing. I’m used to fighting at 147 so I didn’t have to do anything crazy. I’ve been able to eat good fulfilling meals. The opponent on paper seems like he should be bigger than me and stronger. We aren’t too worried about him. His record is like 4-41-1. We aren’t too worried about his record but I have heard that he’s pretty durable. I know he’s a southpaw so I know that we have a couple of things to watch out for.”
“I’m really excited to see Isayah Smith fight” Pomeroy continued. “Isayah looked ready for his last fight even though his opponent didn’t show up. He was cool, calm and collected and didn’t seem to be bothered by that. I got to talk with him and he seemed real confident. He didn’t make a fuss after his opponent no showed. He was very professional for a young kid so that’s exciting.”
“I want to give all the glory to God. I have a good spiritual foundation and good people in my life also outside the boxing gym. Of course there are great people in the boxing gyms also and I’m thankful they are all in my life. I’d like to shout out Eddy Valenzuela for the work, Gizzy Hobbs for his return to the ring, The Grand Casino Hinckley who has a show coming up featuring Isaiah Abalan, Cruse Stewart and more. Tony Woods is fighting soon. I’m just excited to keep the wins coming. We are going to be trying to get on the April show (April 18 in Saint Paul). We aren’t looking past this one though. We are looking to take this guy out and then think about what’s next. This guy might hit hard but I’m going to enter the ring with a victory mentality.”
