Josh Dyer captured the BKFC light heavyweight championship with a stoppage win over Rosemount, Minnesota’s Mike Richman on Saturday night at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah.

The bout headlined BKFC 74 and was scheduled for five rounds. Richman, 39, was making the first defense of the 185-pound title he won last December with a 44-second knockout. Known for his aggressive style and knockout power, Richman came to fight and showed trademark heart and determination, but on this night, Dyer proved to be the sharper and more physical fighter. The fight was stopped :58 seconds into the fourth round.

Dyer, a 34-year-old contender from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, applied steady pressure and found success with his combinations, forcing the referee to step in and halt the contest with Richman cut and swollen. Richman never stopped trying to turn the tide and made the action entertaining as usual, but Dyer’s size and output were too much to overcome on Saturday night.

With the win, Dyer improves to 5-1 and becomes the new BKFC light heavyweight champion. Richman falls to 7-3.
