JOEY ABELL SET TO RETURN NEXT MONTH AGAINST TREY LIPPE MORRISON

“Minnesota Ice’ Joey Abell (35-11, 33 KO’S) of Coon Rapids, MN is scheduled to face 32 year-old Trey Lippe Morrison (18-1, 17 KO’s) of Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 11, 2022 at the Civic Center in Neosho, Missouri. The heavyweight bout is scheduled for six rounds and is the shows main event.

Abell, who went on to tell Minnesotaboxing.com that he’d fight the son of late former WBO heavyweight champion Tommy Morrison for free, is focused and confident of victory if the fight takes place.

“They contacted me and gave me sh## pay and told me I had to get there alone” Abell told Minnesotaboxing.com “I accepted. If I can’t beat him I should retire. He is exactly what I’m looking for. I’m looking for somebody to put me out of my misery and I know he couldn’t possibly. I feel like I could have beat him in my debut” exclaimed Abell.

Lippe-Morrison built his record to 18-0 before being stopped last time out in the first round by Mike Balogun (then 17-0) in December of 2021. Lippe-Morrison has heavy hands and this should be a fun fight while it lasts.

Abell also suffered a defeat in his last bout but under different circumstances. The Minnesotan was out-boxing Michael Coffie (then 11-0, 8 KOs) in November of 2020. Abell was on the attack early in the fight and landing nice combinations when a looping right hand landed awkwardly to the shoulder of Coffie. Abell immediately grimaced, dropped his hands and was on his way down after the injury occurred. Coffie wasted no time in taking advantage of the situation and landed the first good punch of the fight, a left to Abell’s body as the Minnesotan was going down. Coffie then landed a glancing uppercut as Abell hit the canvas. Unfazed by the punches, Abell grabbed his arm and signaled to the referee he could not continue at 0:45 of round two.
