JAMES REMAINS UNBEATEN WITH VICTORY

Minnesota State Welterweight champion Jamal “Shango” James of Minneapolis improved to (18-0, 9 KO’s) moments ago with an impressive 10 round unanimous decision victory over Juan Carlos Abreu (17-2-1, 16 KO’s) at the Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida.
James boxed nicely in rounds 1 and 2 but Abreu began to come forward in the next three rounds to even things up. Abreu was credited with a knockdown but it looked more like a tangle of legs that sent James down in round 4. James and his corner switched things up however and the Minnesota fighter began to box behind a hard jab and move to avoid the pressuring Abreu as the fight went to the middle rounds. Despite being labeled the “boxer” and Abreu the “puncher”, it was James who was hardly shaken while Abreu was left rocked and dazed on more than one occasion. James did a great job of jabbing to set up both high volume combinations and single hard uppercuts on the inside and power punches from a distance. James floored Abreu once in round 6 and nearly again in round 7. Still, the action was exciting for both fighters as James outboxed Abreu while making him miss wildly in the final round, closing a wonderful performance and winning by scores of 97-91, 96-92, 96-92.
