Isayah Smith (now 2-0, 1 KO) of Duluth, MN stopped Clifford McPherson (now 2-50-1, 1 KO) of Cleveland, Ohio at 1:42 of the second round at Teamsters Hall in Cedar Rapids, Iowa moments ago.
Smith told MinnesotaBoxing.com prior that this bout was all about showcasing his talent because he’s been working on articulating his craft in the gym. Heading in, Smith said that he didn’t know much about his opponent because he likes to leave that up to his coaches and corner men to game plan. The plan they came up with worked and now Smith says he is ready for the next one this Spring. Smith weighed 137.75 pounds coming in while McPherson weighed 141.75 (Smith’s coach says McPherson was forced to sweat two pounds off that weight).
“We have our next fight lined up April 18th down in the Cities. We’re getting on the high horse now and moving the pace. These past couple years, I should have had way more fights but everything kept getting canceled.”
Smith is scheduled to box Joby Steffensmeier (0-2) of Iowa in a four round featherweight bout on April 18th at the High School for Recording Arts in Saint Paul, MN.
