BOXING: JOEY ABELL MEETS POLISH PROSPECT ZIMNOCH IN SEPTEMBER

Coon Rapids heavyweight “Minnesota Ice” Joey Abell (33-9, 31 KO’s) will box on September 9th, 2017 in Radom, Poland against 33 year old Polish prospect Krzysztof Zimnoch (22-1-1, 15 KO’s). The heavyweight match is scheduled for 12 rounds of action.
Abell is on a two fight win streak and did a fantastic job of putting his knockout power and boxing abilities together in those bouts. Abell destroyed prospect Wes Nofire in July of 2016 and most recently stopped Ray Ochieng last February in Blaine, Minnesota. Fans packed the venue for the fight against Ochieng as the two boxers both had confident words to share prior to the fight leading up to an intense staredown at weigh-in’s. But Abell said there was no animosity or extra push to get Ochieng out of there early. He said it was just business as usual.

I cant say that there was any extra burn to get him out of there any sooner then I would any other fighter” said Abell. “I have had a lot of extra motivation to win in the last two fights because of the time I feel I have remaining in the sport. I don’t want to waste my time or take any chances by dancing around with fighters, it’s to risky. So that fight and every fight from now on is going to be the same way. Physically I felt great in the fight. The kind of fight that he wanted to fight makes it hard to look good as a boxer. No disrespect to him though, he wanted to fight. For me it was a win and at the end of the day that’s what matters most.”

Abell has now been competing professionally since 2005 and at 36, many are saying that he is boxing at the highest level of his career. Abell has always had monstrous power, even in the amateur ranks. And his boxing skills and athleticism, especially compared with other heavyweight boxers has been talked about since he first laced up the gloves. Now, Abell appears to have put it all together as he heads into another big opportunity against Zimnoch in September. With a proper training camp on the horizon, Abell says he can’t wait to keep his career rolling.

Mr. Zimnoch is a prospect for sure. I feel that I will be a step up for him though as far as athletic ability. He has fought some good fighters but the fighters that were good, were good in their prime. I will be happy to evaluate him after our fight. I took the fight because I believe I can win. It will take alot of time and a strong camp but I have no intentions of losing.”

“I think all things considered, I may be at my best. Experience is a major factor in that. As well as having a family to fight for. I don’t need to fight but do to help support and make my kids life better. That being said, I’ve never been in the mindset to train like I have for the last two fights before. I no longer go through the motions. I’m focused when I need to be and that makes me a better fighter then I have been in the past.”
