WBA #3 rated welterweight contender Jamal “Shango” James (25-1, 12 KO’s) stopped Janer Gonzalez (19-2-1, 15 KO’s) of Cartagena, Columbia at the conclusion of round 6 on Saturday night at the Armory in Minneapolis, MN. James electrified the full house with another fight-ending body shot victory which inched him closer to a world title fight.

The pride of Minneapolis James was in command throughout most of the action although Gonzalez’ toughness and unorthodox style kept things competitive in the early rounds. James was fully settled in with his range by the fifth before punishing the game Columbian heavily in round six. A right hand from James glanced off the shoulder/face of Gonzalez in the sixth which was not ruled a knockdown. Gonzalez stood up, smiled and went on the attack but James was adding more power behind his combinations. Two right hands to the head delivered by James found their target and left to the body crippled Gonzalez in a corner as the round neared it’s end. The fight was stopped when Gonzalez could not make the bell to begin round seven.

After the fight, “Shango” James thanked the fans who braved the snow and chilled Minnesota winter to see him go to work once again.
