BOXING: CARAWAY STOPS MORRIS IN HINCKLEY MAIN EVENT

DeLorien Caraway stopped Markus Morris in round five of last nights main event at Hinckley, Minnesota’s Grand Casino. The fight featured five action-packed rounds that had Morris ahead in the early going before Caraway came roaring back. Caraway dropped Morris with a combination that began with a right hand to the head in round four. Morris went down twice in round five before referee Mark Nelson waived the fight off.

Morris, of Duluth, attacked with straight forward combinations that scored in rounds one through three. He promised heading into the fight that he would use pressure early and he stuck to those words. Caraway also did well with slippery defense while landing countering pot-shots. Caraway’s jab began to land as the fight progressed which opened up targets for his right hand to the head. Morris was shaken by the first knockdown in round four and continued to get to his feet in round five during those knockdowns. Caraway’s speed and combinations were too much for Nelson to let the fight continue and the fight was stopped in round five.  The win sets up a state title showdown with Rondale Hubbert at a later date.

Minnesota Fight News will bring you full photo-report coverage later today.
