Walters, Lindquist Post fight interview with the JungleBoy
By Jesse Kelley and Ramon Hough

JK Before the fight, Lindquist looked like he was trying to psych you out and intimidate you. What was going through your head after seeing this?

Walters Ive actually seen that before, out in Washington. That guy also came out all bug eyed and crazy like that. It is just part of the game and I know not to get psyched out.

JK You came out pretty cautious in the first round, but in the second seemed more aggressive. Was that part of your game plan?

Walters No, actually it wasnt was not to open up until the fourth round. He caught me with a good punch and I new he was going to come in with another power shot of some sort. When he was marching across the ring I new he was coming with the right hand so I put my left up by my head and dropped the right hand on him. That was the last punch. Other than that I was trying to attack the body and establish distance. I just wanted to take my time and was not expecting to get to busy until around the fourth round.

JK So when he did catch you with that shot did you realise you have to change things up?

Walters Yeah, he was cutting off the ring pretty good. When he cut off the ring he would really load up with a big shot. He actually hit me in the arm once and my arm got all tingly! I was thinking alright, that cant happen again, I need to establish some distance between us. I started to put the jab out there more. Not really too hard but just to let him know that I had it. When I lost the mouth piece, I was dazed. I actually didnt know I had lost the mouth piece until after the clinch. I closed my mouth and though oh crap!

JK Ok, we touched on this a bit already, but can you talk some more about the right hand you landed that ended the fight?

Walters Alot of times that he would rush in, he would put his left hand on his chest. That was something I picked up on in the first round. I knew he was going to come in with some kind of power shot. We have been working on the short right hand for a long time. A right hand beats a looping right hand everytime.

JKWhen you landed it, did you feel it was over right away?

Walters Yeah his head went all the way back, he never expected it.

RH Well it was a tough fight, your the new Minnesota State champ, how are you feeling right now?

Walters You know, it hasn't even set in yet. Going into this fight I wanted to make a statement saying that it is his home town, but my home state. Now that things are all said and done, I think that statement was made. It was his home town but It almost seemed like I had the edge on the crowd. It just feels so good after all the hardwork we put in this summer. Now that this fight is all said and done it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my chest. Some of those work out I had were brutal! Im just going to take sometime off and then get right back into it. Ive got a fight coming up on Oct. 2 I believe in Hinckley.

RH Do you have any opponents set for that fight?

Walters I dont know who it is at this point but I would like to find out soon so in training I have an idea what I need to work on. I didnt really get tore up at all in this fight so I will be ready to go.
