Lights Out in Walker, MN!
October 29th, 2007
By Jesse Kelley
Dave Peterson of Moundsview stepped up to face experienced
veteran Larry Brothers of Washington, DC in the nights main event.
Peterson showed excellent conditioning as he out boxed and at times
out brawled his shorter but heavier muscle bound opponent from DC.
Peterson's early body attack had clearly paid off in the end. When
Peterson boxed, Brothers was no match but he did give Brothers a
few chances to steal the fight as he also banged with Brothers.
Peterson controlled most of these exchanges but in the fourth, after
given a standing eight count, Brothers bull rushed Peterson, landing
a left hook and also a head to the temple of Peterson that sent
him to the floor. Peterson stood up shaking his head showing he
wasn't hurt.
Peterson had complete control during the final two rounds, scoring
one standing eight in the fifth.
Brothers was deducted 2 points in all for losing his mouthpiece
a total of 5 throughout the bout. The score cards read 59- 52, 60-50
60-53 in favor of Peterson who remains undefeated at 9-0. Brothers
record falls to 7-27
*Correction
to story: Anthony Bonsante stopped Larry Brothers in the fourth
round when they met earlier this year rather then going the distance
as previously stated.

Fan favorite Chris Holt of Detroit Lakes, MN had a
tougher then expected scrap with wild man Hector Ramirez of Columbus,
IN in the opening moments of the co-feature. Holt survived a few
early jitters in the first. Ramirez landed a quick left to the temple
that may have hurt Holt very early. If hurt however, Holt disguised
it well as he pressed forward unloading hard shots to the body and
head. Holt took three knees in the round following grazing punches
which may have been the effects of the shot in the beginning of
the round but Holt just rose and stormed after Ramirez each time
as if nothing happened. The bizarre events continued near the closing
of the round. Ramirez landed a nice left hook to the jaw of Holt
that sent him reeling back to the ropes and to the floor. Holt immediately
jumped up though looking ready to rumble. The referee either didn't
call it a knockdown or decided not to do a count because action
immediately resumed just before the bell sounded to end the round.
Holt shot out of his corner to start the second like a lighting
bolt dropping Ramirez hard with a left to the body and a right to
the chin. Surprisingly, Ramierez made it to his feet. Both men traded
wild shots in the corner shortly after. A weary Ramirez then tackled
Holt to the floor. Holt jumped up but a tired Ramirez remained lying
on the canvas where he was given the count. More pressure was put
on Ramirez and he was put down once again by Holt.
The brutal punishment delivered by Holt continued for the remainder
of the four round bout. In the end Holt came out ahead by scores
of 40-33, 39-36, 39-34 and improves his record to 13-8 while Ramirez
falls to 14-48

The womens Minnesota State lightweight title was up
for grabs as Kirstie Davis of Mille Lacs matched up with D.J. Morrison
of Red Wing.
Both women came out swinging like warriors and neither quit punching
for the duration of the fight as the crowd cheered on. Morrison
however began to land more and more frequently as the fight moved
into the second round. With the round nearing a close, Morrison
trapped Davis on the ropes and unloaded prompting Bobby Brunette
to give a standing eight. Davis continued but the bell sounded to
end the round. Davis was unable to come out for the third at the
advice of the ring doctor. Morrison now stands at 1-3 while Davis
drops her first and is now 3-1

Russian giant Boris Shishporenok busted up tough as
nails brawler Jake Betz in an exciting heavyweight battle. Having
almost no prior boxing experience before turning pro, the Russian
transplant continued to show improving skills in his fourth professional
fight.
A hard straight left from the towering southpaw dropped Betz to
his seat early in the second. Boris continued to stalk Betz behind
a strong jab for the duration of the round.
Betz had some early success in the third round but that was cut
short as a huge left-right-left combo to the head took everything
out of Betz as he crashed to the floor. With cut, closing eyes and
bleeding nose Betz tried to continue but the referee wouldn't allow
it as Betz stumbled forward. The time of the stoppage was 1:43 of
the third.
Boris entered the ring as "I'm too sexy" by Right Said
Fred echoed the boxing hall. Although I cannot agree that he is
"too sexy" for his shirt, he is indeed improving with
each fight as he moves to 4-0. As for Betz, you can be assured you
will get a fight if you step in the ring with him. His record now
stands at 0-2

Rochester, MN's Scott Ball looked extremely sharp
as he slowly deflated wily veteran Tony Ault of Indianapolis over
three rounds of action. Ault couldn't match Ball offensively but
displayed his toughness in continuing to rise and fight when given
chances to quit.
Ball landed a monsterous right hand to the head of Ault to begin
the second round that floored his opponent. A standing eight was
given to Ault seconds later after a barrage of body shots set up
another right hand to the head hurting Ault.
Ball continued the punishment in the third dropping Ault with a
thudding body shot. Ball scored what would be the final knockdown
of the fight with a chopping right hand to head that dropped Ault
once again. The referee waived the fight off at :56 seconds into
the third round. With the tko win, Ball moves to 9-5 while Ault
falls to 10-22

Fargo, ND's Tyler Gould and Red Lake, MN native Dischek
Martin engaged in an entertaining welterweight match for two rounds
until Martin ran out of gas.
Late in the second round Gould began to unload on Martin along the
ropes. Referee Bobby Brunette gave Martin a standing eight as he
stood along the ropes breathing heavily. Moments later Martin was
given another standing eight count as he failed to leave a corner
and fight. Brunette saw that he was in no condition to continue
and waived the fight off. The official time was 2:27 of the second
round.
Gould has shown freakish power in the past but his tendency to brawl
cost him in his last outing. On this night however, Gould showed
good composure as he slowly wore out Martin. Martin fought hard
and was game but his lack of stamina proved to be his downfall.
Gould now stands at 4-1 while Martin falls to 0-1.

School was back in session for "The Educator"
Ben Lane of Saint Paul, Mn as he returned to the ring after more
then a year of absence to face Joe Thompson of Naytahwaush, MN in
a super middleweight bout.
Lane used his jab to set up Thompson in a corner late in the first
where a series of left and rights to the head put Thompson down.
Thompson still looked stunned as he rose and another barrage of
punches shortly after dropped him to the ropes as the bell sounded
to end the round. Thompson was unable to continue for the second.
With the win, Lane improves his record to 4-1 while Thompson drops
his first pro fight.

John Sargent takes the mic to talk to his many fans
in attendance. Sargent announces that his daughter (pictured) is
looking to get a shot at the winner of the womens bout between Kirstie
Davis and DJ Morrisson
