In a battle of veterans, Anthony "The Bullet" Bonsante (32-10-3, 18 KO's) pounded out a 10 round unanimous decision over Carl "The Squirrel" Daniels (50-15-1, 32 KO's) Saturday night at the Treasure Island Casino in Red Wing, MN.
Bonsante set the pace immediately at the opening bell as he broke out of his corner swarming Daniels with heavy shots.
Daniels had success in spurts but wasn't able to find a rhythm due to the continuous punching and hard combinations from Bonsante.
Bonsante, 37, never slowed as he rocked Daniels on several occasions with his trade mark uppercut in close quarters. Daniels did his best work while countering Bonsante with single shots but began to tire by the bouts midway point.
Bonsante put forth his best effort to take Daniels out in the final round stunning him with both head and body shots but Daniels was able to hold on until the bell.
Scores read 100-90, 99-91, 100-91 for Bonsante.

In the co-feature, Matt "The Predator" Vanda (39-7, 22 KO's) used a closing round assault to batter and stop Dezi Ford (24-24-2, 9 KO's).
Vanda fought the first half of the scheduled eight round bout fighting in a lower gear then usual which allowed Ford to make the early rounds close. Ford, of Akron, Ohio landed flush to Vanda on only a few occasions but his slick defense and edge in punch output made for a competitive bout through five rounds. Vanda was not being outboxed but let his punches fly mostly in the closing moments of the early rounds.
Vanda started to come alive in the sixth round, particularly with body shots as Ford was beginning to look tired. The body shots continued to come from Vanda in the seventh round.
Ford, who was constantly moving during the bout became a stationary target in the eighth and final round. Vanda went forward now with full force, trying to take Ford out.
Vanda landed a sharp left-right combination to the head that sent Ford's gumshield flying across the ring. Still dazed, Ford was leveled by a crushing right to the jaw, dropping him on all fours with blood spilling from his mouth. As Ford rose on unsteady legs, referee Gary Miezwa stopped the bout at 2:53 of the final round.
With the win, Vanda secures his rematch with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. which will take place in Las Vegas on November 1st. Vanda will attend a press conference announcing the fight on Monday, Sept. 22nd in Los Angeles.

Raphael Butler (32-6, 25 KO's) destroyed Lyle McDowell (27-11, 18 KO's) in the opening round in a heavyweight bout.
Butler wasted no time, landing a hard right to the jaw of McDowell. Another series of rights sent McDowell reeling to the ropes. McDowell tried to fire back but was caught with a grazing left that sent him rolling backwards to the canvas where he was unable to get up. Referee Mark Nelson stopped the fight :52 into the round.
The win puts Butler on a better path following a dissapointing loss to Homero Fonseca on Sept. 4th. McDowell, who was a marquee name in the Wisconsin boxing scene throughout the 90's recieved a sour return to the ring from Butler. McDowell last fought in 2003, lossing by KO to Samuel Peter.

Harley Kilfian (6-2, 5 KO's) took Ron Krull (7-34) out at 1:13 of the opening round. Kilfian opened by firing hard, straight jabs while Krull missed with a few hard rights. Krull tried to bully Kilfian but was dropped with a right hook to the head. Krull was up by the count of five and continued with the rough tactics. Moments later 5 or 6 unanswered right to the head sent Krull sagging to the bottom ropes where Miezwa stopped the fight.

Danny Schlienz (7-13, 3 KO's) stopped Terrance Trottier (1-4) in the fourth round of an entertaining bout.
Trottier continues to improve with each fight and looked sharp early using stiff countering shots to gain the advantage over Schlienz. Schlienz stayed composed though and by the third round it began to look like Trottier was loosing steam. Schlienz took over at the end of the round dropping a tired Trottier with head shots and a hard right to the body as the round ended.
Schlienz stuck with the body attack and dropped Trottier immediately as the fourth round started. Schlienz was now chasing Trottier around the ring and landed a few hard shots to the mid section of Trottier on the inside. When the fighters seperated, Trottier was holding his arm in pain. Miezwa took a close look and decided to stop the fight at 1:38 of the fourth.

Ceresso Fort (3-0, 3 KO's) stopped Mike Krull (0-6) in a scheduled four round contest. A left to the gut and a right to the head sent Krull to the canvas early. Krull rose with a drunk look and referee Mark Nelson asked him if he could continue. Krull looked around with dazed eyes and Nelson waived the fight off. Krull immediatley dropped the glazed look and protested the stoppage afterwards. Time was :40 into the first round.

Speedy boxers Antwan Robertson and Ronnie Peterson Jr traded punches for four rounds of exhibition action to start off the night. Look for Robertson to fight next in Canada on October 24th. Robertson says he is scheduled to face Steve Cannell (2-1-2) of New Mexico. Peterson will be making his professional debut in Rochester, MN on October 4th.

(Robertson was not fighting after the bout as photo may suggest!)
