The Seven Clans Casino in Thief River Falls, Mn hosted a night of boxing last Saturday night.

In the nights main event, Canada's middleweight champion Larry "Razor" Sharpe 170 (12-2-1) beat John Mclean 175 (1-9-3) by a six round unanimous decision. The bout started off cautions for the first few rounds with neither man really wanting to open up. Sharpe was able to land most of the clean shots but showed little power to do any real damage in the beginning rounds. The action picked up in the fourth round as Sharpe got busier and started to throw harder shots for the remainder of the bout. Mclean, who brings a much better game then his record would show, was always coming forward and had success countering Sharpe at time.

James Wayka 147 (13-4) looked sensational in his bout against the game Scott Ball 149 ( 7-0) of Rochester, Mn. Wayka was able to land hurtful combinations to the head and body of Ball throughout the four rounds. Ball landed some good shots of his own but they only came one at a time for the most part. After a final hard left-right combo to the head of Ball landed flush, Ball's corner threw in the towel ending the fight at 1:38. Ball took some hard shots but to his credit never looked like he would be going down and was still ready to go when his corner stopped it. Although you never would have thought it by the fierce pace of the action, the bout was only an exhibition and will be ruled a no contest.

Thief River Falls Kyle Jenson 178 had a successful pro debut in front of his hometown crowd as he faced another debuting pro, Dean Sargent 183. Sargent seemed to control the first round being busier and more accurate with his punches. Sargent also was getting the better of the action early in the second round. Even with the early success however, an out of breath Sargent went to his corner after a clinch and said he didnt want to continue fighting.

2004 National Golden gloves champion Raphael Butler 252 (13-1) stayed busy with a 1st round knockout of John Dixon 251 (4-25). After pounding Dixon to the body early, Butler dropped Dixon with a hurtful right-left-right to the head at about the midway point of the round. Dixon rose to his feet but was met with the same combination to the head which sent him staggering to the ropes as the bell sounded to end the round. The referee waived the fight off in between rounds giving Butler the tko win.

Dave Peterson 150 (3-0) of mounds view, mn overwhelmed and stopped Syrus Sargent 149 (0-4) by tko at 1:08 of the first round.

Also fighting on the card was 2003 National golden gloves champion Travis Walker 243 (14-0). His opponent was David Robinson 204 (22-50-3). Walker worked behind the jab and picked his shots while stalking the shorter Robinson. A hard right to the head sent Robinson to the canvas where he was counted out at 2:38 of round one.

Another heavyweight bout between the debuting Joey Abell 240 and Richie Goosehead 273 (7-18-1) was ruled a no contest after goosehead slipped through the ropes and out of the ring and could not continue. Abell turned it up a notch in the second half of the first round and put Goosehead down with a right-left combination to the head. Goosehead made it to his feet to continue. Moments later Abell backed Goosehead to the ropes causing Goosehead to slip on the moist ring where he fell backwards through the ropes and onto the pavement. Goosehead who had a huge welt and was cut up on his ribs from the fall clearly could not continue.
