TRUAX DEFEATS HOPE, KAYONGO STOPS TODD
Photos and Report By Jesse Kelley

Undefeated Caleb Truax (14-0) pounded out a hard fought unanimous decision over Kerry Hope (12-2) on Friday night at the Saint Paul Armory in Minnesota. Truax and Hope engaged early and often with most of the action taking place in the center of the ring. Truax was on top of his game in the early to mid rounds as he landed sharp and accurate counter punches to the head and body that shook Hope on more then one occasion. Undeterred, hope pressed forward like a machine although not having quite the same success. Hope's relentless pressure began to pay off however by round seven as Truax began to backpedal and drop his punch output. Hope continued to bring the fight to Truax going into an all action round ten which saw both fighters brawl until the final bell. Judges saw it unanimously in favor of Truax by scores of 97-93 on all cards. Truax, who took home the WBF International super middleweight title with the victory, talked about the action.
"I thought I used my jab well and countered well with both hands. That is what won me the fight. Kerry Hope is a tough Welsh S.O.B. who is in great shape. He stood up to my hardest shots. I think it was a fun fight for the fans and am glad he stepped in instead of Carl Daniels because it was a much tougher fight. I learned a lot with this win."

Heavy handed Mohammed Kayongo (15-2-1) stopped tough as nails brawler James Todd (2-2-1) at 2:35 of the third round. The bout was fought at a furious pace while it lasted as Todd marched forward from the opening bell bringing relentless pressure to the fleet footed Ugandan born Kayongo. Kayongo appeared unfazed and glad to trade punches as he unleashed heavy countering uppercuts to the head and body of his own. Kayongo had a small edge in the early exchanges but it seemed like he was tempting fate by brawling and playing into Todd's game. Todd continued to pressure and land clean punches as he targeted Kayongo late in round two but walked into a perfectly timed right to the jaw that sent the Wales fighter to the canvas as his mouthpiece was sent flying. Todd was able to regain his footing and finish the round but didn't seem the same after the knockdown. Todd continued to chase his opponent in round three despite being on shaky legs as Kayongo was beginning to land at will. A left-right to the head had Todd hurt and staggering as referee Mark Nelson jumped between fighters to end the fight. Kayongo wins the WBF International welterweight title with the victory.

"He was a pressure fighter but I knew that if I boxed, he couldn't take my punches" said Kayongo. "It was a good win and will open the doors for some big fights."
Soboxing.com has reported that Kayongo is in current talks to bring the Ugandan super star back to his home country to fight on the undercard of the Francois Botha (47-4-3) Vs Evander Holyfield (47-10-2) fight on January 16th at the Nelson Mandela Memorial Stadium in Kampala, Uganda. A sell-out crowd of 80,000 spectators are expected of what would be the biggest fight ever in Uganda.

Michael Faulk improved to (2-0) with a decision win over ND's Ryan Soft (1-1-1). It was a clash of styles as Soft swung wildly with anger in his eyes while Faulk stayed composed and boxed. In the end, judges favored Faulk by scores of 40-36, 39-37 twice.

Willshaun Boxley boxed an exhibition bout with Philip Adyaka to begin the nights action. Although an exhibition, the two ripped, speedy fighters fought without headgear and gave the fans a good show through six rounds of unofficial action. Boxley found himself in a unique position as he was the bigger man of the two. Boxley smiled and fired off hard combos (particularly during the closing rounds) while showing his trademark elusiveness on the defensive end. We also learned that Adyaka, 0-2 as a pro, is much better then you would think a winless fighter would be. Adyaka is a new addition to Kayongo and Ismail Muwendo's team and will also be fun to watch in the future.
