Heavyweight Raphael Butler (31-4, 24 KO's) secured a showdown with
Eddie Chambers last night as he stopped Otis Tisdale (25-20-1, 15
KO's) in Rochester, MN. Butler grew frustrated as Tisdale clinched
and covered up through the first three rounds. The action picked
up in the fourth as both men began to trade on the inside. Butler
caught Tisdale along the ropes, unleashing a barrage of unanswered
punches that snapped Tisdale's head back. A left-right-left combo
to the head at the end of the series stunned Tisdale and referee
Mark Nelson jumped in to stop the bout at 1:48 of the fourth round.
In a shocker, spoiler Andrew Greeley (14-20-2, 8 KO's) stopped Joey
"Minnesota Ice" Abell in round four. Abell looked sharp
early scoring points with a hard jab and straight lefts. Greeley
tried to counter punch Abell but backed up and clinched for the
most part. Abell began to turn up the pressure on Greeley in the
fourth as the crowd was growing restless with the lack of good exchanges.
Abell engaged Greeley on the ropes and let loose with two hard right
hands. Greeley answered with two cracking rights to the head that
sent Abell down hard over the bottom rope. Abell made it to his
feet as the round was coming to a close on shaky legs as punches
continued to come his way. Greeley rushed Abell and landed a big
over hand right to the jaw along the ropes and Abell's hands dropped
to his sides where Mark Nelson waived the fight off at 2:58 of round
four.
In other action, Jake Betz (2-2) stopped Rayvon Wilson (0-2) at
2:08 of round three. Wilson boxed effectively in the first round
but was out of steam from then on out. Betz was patient and waited
for Wilson to tire more. Wilson could hardly keep his hands up in
the third round and Betz went on the offensive, throwing hard, unanswered
head punches until Mark Nelson stopped the contest.
The bout between Heavyweights Van Goodman (2-1, 2ko's) and "Boris"
Yevgeniy Shishporenok (4-0, 4ko's) was canceled when Goodman's blood
pressure was said to be over 200 and he was not allowed to fight
by the medical staff.
