"Golden" Caleb Truax (17-0-1, 10 KO's) of Osseo, MN remained undefeated Saturday night at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN with a hard fought majority decision win over Phil "The Drill" Williams (11-4-1, 10 KO's) of Minneapolis, MN. Truax and Williams battled to a 10 round draw on April 23rd of last year. Both fighters fought cautiously for the better part of the first meeting and after three rounds Saturday night, it seemed fans were in for another cautious chess match.
The punches began to fly however near the end of round three and the action was constant for the remainder of the fight. Truax began to force his way inside his bigger opponent and target the body of Williams midway through while Williams fired off combinations from the outside. The back and forth action continued into the ninth, a round that left both fighters bloody and swollen. Both Truax and Williams finished the fight fight strong but it was Truax that won over the judges, winning by scores of 97-94, 96-94, and 95-95.
As was the case in the first meeting, each fighter felt they deserved the victory in the rematch afterwards.
"I thought I busted him up" said Williams. I boxed his head off but what are you going to do? It was a good fight and I will be back."
"Phil came to fight" said Truax. "He was a lot stronger this time but I was still able to land the bigger shots and outwork him. I think the body shots really paid off for me. I think we gave the fans a great fight."

Ismail Muwendo (8-0, 6 KO's) of Minneapolis, MN won a unanimous decision over Rob Diezel (5-3, 2 KO's) of Seattle, Washington. Muwendo stalked Diezel with big punches in the early going. A hard right to the jaw shook Diezel in the second round forcing the Seattle fighter to retreat for the rest of the round.
Muwendo continued to press forward with power punches while Diezel kept the fight interesting with countering shots. Diezel's success was sporadic in final rounds however as his work rate dropped which allowed Muwendo to coast to a victory. Scores read 59-55, 59-5, 60-54.

Tim Taggart Jr. (5-2-2, 2 KO's) of Hinckley, MN won a bloody six round battle over Charles Meier (4-2-1, 2 KO's) of Saint Paul, MN. Both Taggart and Meier's laid everything out on the table, trading power punches with little regard for their own well being. Neither fighter was in danger of going down despite the intense action. The crowd cheered the fighters on throughout the bout. Taggart came away with the unanimous decision win by scores of 58-56, 58-56, 59-55.

Tony Lee (3-0, 1 KO) of Saint Paul, MN stopped Alexander Tousignant (1-5) of Milwaukee, WI in the 4th of a scheduled 5 round welterweight bout. Rounds one and two saw good action with Lee getting the better of his live opponent with sharp combinations. Tousignant pressed forward and traded with Lee but began to slow by the fourth round. Lee landed a jaw dropping lead left hook to the chin that put Tousignant to the canvas later in the fourth. Tousignant beat the count but was met with a left-right combination to the head before the bout was stopped at 2:22 of the fourth round.

Minneapolis native Jamal James improved to (4-0, 4 KO's) with a second round destruction of Justin Danforth (6-18) of Milwaukee, WI. James used his height and reach to keep Danforth on the outside. The two exchanged hard right hands to the head early in the second round which only seemed to put James in stoppage mode. James backed Danforth to the ropes and landed a hard right hand that sent Danforth to a knee where he was counted out. James stopped Danforth in May of 2010 in his pro debut.

Heavyweight Serhiy Karpenko (3-1, 2 KO's) of Big Bear, California stopped Zak Jensen (0-1) of Hopkins, MN at 1:31 of the first round. Jensen rushed Karpenko straight out of the bell where the two traded big punches. Jensen, a well traveled MMA fighter who competed on Spike TV's Ultimate fighter, was game but dropped with an over hand right in the early going. Both fighters went right back at it shortly after with Jensen staying in Karpenko's face. Karpenko patiently waited for an opening and found it again with a countering right to the head that put Jensen down to a knee. Jensen rose but was met with a barrage of hard left and rights to the head from Karpenko that put him down again. Jensen wasn't staying down and got up to continue before referee Mark Nelson waived the fight off.
