Vicente Alfaro (5-1) won an 8 round split decision on Saturday night in Duluth over Gary Eyer (8-1-1). It was a non stop slugfest from beginning to end. Eyer tried to walk through Alfaro in round one, scoring with wild punches from all angles. Alfaro held his own in the early action but as the opening round came to a close, it seemed like Alfaro was playing Eyer's game. Alfaro turned the tide on Eyer in round two by slowing the pace slightly and making it a boxing match. Both men continued to trade heavy punches in the following rounds and each showed incredible heart in the process but Alfaro was landing more frequently as Eyer was unable to sustain a constant attack like he has in past fights. Despite looking completely drained, Eyer came out attacking in the sixth round landing body shots, forcing a brawl again and busting the nose of Alfaro with a hard jab. Alfaro was bleeding heavily from the nose but calmly regrouped with a smile on his face and continued to find a home for his right hand down the stretch which rocked the brave hometowner. Both fighters let their punches fly in the closing moments of an action packed fight. When the smoke cleared, Alfaro had earned a split decision victory by scores of 78-74, 78-74 for Alfaro and 78-75 for Eyer.

RJ Laase (6-1) of Duluth evened the score with Hector Orozco (3-7) by winning a six round unanimous decision. Laase and Orozco first fought in May of 2009 with Orozco winning by way of majority decision. The first meeting between the two featured good action but both Laase and Orozco brought their game to a higher level for the rematch which made for a fast paced six round battle. Orozco was able to stand in front of Laase at times and go to work with busier combinations. Laase countered this with the harder telling punches which made for a very close fight to score. Each round followed the same pattern with Orozco having the higher work rate while Laase picked his spots to land the harder blows. After six rounds, the judges saw in favor of Laase unanimously. Scores were confusing as they were announced 48-47, 49-46, and 50-48 for Laase. One of the judges told Minnesotaboxing.com that all three judges were in agreement at 48-46 for Laase. And Boxrec.com lists scores of 49-46, and 48-47 x2 in favor of Laase. Both fighters left the ring feeling like they had done enough to get the win.

"It was another close fight" said Laase afterwards. "But I truly believe I won a minimum of four rounds. I feel I controlled the pace this time by making him miss a lot of shots and I also had him hurt with a big left hook early in the fight. I give Hector nothing but respect. He's a dirt tough guy that can throw with the best of them. After the closing bell he even told me I took this one before going back to his corner where he changed his mind. As far as a third fight goes I'm not saying it's not possible but I'll leave that up to my management team. That's why we have them, so they can look out for our best interest. I know they have they're eyes set on a few guys for me in the near future so only time can tell!"

Minnesotaboxing.com also caught up with Orozco, who was equally confident that he deserved the victory and called for a third fight.

"I was man enough to give him a rematch just like I did with my past victories over other fighters. I give him two rounds this time, I don't see how the judges saw it that way. He got me with a nice shot early on but I out-punched him for the rest of the fight. I hope he gives me the rematch that I gave him only this time on neutral turf. I fought in his backyard twice now, maybe he will give me a rematch in Hinckley or somewhere like that."

Heavyweight Aaron Green (2-0) stopped Jordan Zeigler (1-1) in first round. Green landed a hard uppercut early on which set up a barrage of punches that dropped Zeigler to a knee. Zeigler's corner was already throwing in the towel before Zeigler had a chance to attempt to rise. The crowd booed with disapproval at the decision to end the fight.

"I had no clue who my opponent was other then a name and record so I trained very hard because I don't take anyone lightly" said Green afterwards
. "I know I caught him with a body shot first and then a right hand. After the right hand I did notice he was hurt but it took me a few seconds to jump on him because I was waiting for the ref to give him a standing eight like they do in the amateurs! It's still a win and I worked very hard."

Al Sands (2-0) stopped Zack Zeigler (3-2) at 2:25 of the first round in another heavyweight bout. Both men came to fight and threw some heavy leather in the early going. Zeigler was able to land a few stiff jabs to the taller Sands while coming forward. The success was short lived however as Sands landed a crushing right to the jaw that floored Zeigler in his own corner. Zeigler rose and looked like he wanted to continue but his corner stopped the fight despite their fighters protests.

"It was a good fight" said Sands. "I expected him to rush in right from the start. While getting ready for this fight we worked on me keeping my distance and watching for his power punches. I wanted to use my speed to stay away from him and use my jab to slow him down. Once he stopped rushing in I was able to get in some good punches. I wanted to use my range as much as possible and was able to land a clean right hand later in the round. I thought the fight was called a bit premature but there is no reason for him to get unnecessarily hurt."

Dustin Mason (1-0) stopped Andrew Selvig (0-1) at 2:58 of the first round in the opening bout of the night. The adrenaline seemed to take over both fighters early as they tossed wild shots at each other. Mason settled in midway through the round and nailed Selvig with a right hand to the head that dropped the mma/boxer to the canvas. A left to the body dropped Selvig a second time near the end of the round where the bout was stopped.
