21 year old Javontae Starks of Minneapolis, MN improved
to (4-0, 4 KO's) on Saturday night at the Shooting Star Casino in
Mahnomen, MN. Starks stopped game Alex Tousignant (1-3) of Milwaukee,
WI at 2:21 of the first. A hard combination of head and body punches
sent Tousignant to the canvas late in the opening round where he
was unable to continue.
Tousignant had a confident swagger to him as he circled, moved and
shouted at Starks in an attempt to confuse him early on. Tousignant
forced Starks back to the ropes and began to throw punches from
all angles in an unsuccessful attempt to catch Starks. The Minnesotan
seemed to invite Tousignant in for more as he bobbed, weaved and
shoulder shrugged the punches out of harms way with his back to
the ropes.
Shortly after it was Starks that decided it was his turn as he forced
Tousignant off with a hard countering shot to the jaw. It was all
Starks from that point on. A hard body-head combination sent Tousignant
down to a corner in the closing part of the round. Tousignant stumbled
to his feet and referee Mark Nelson stopped the bout after Tousignant
gave no sign he could continue.

"Thunder" Tim Taggart (4-2-2, 2 KO's) looked extremely
sharp as he and Nick Whiting (2-13-1, 2 KO's) traded action shots
for four rounds. Taggart was the victor in the end by scores of
39-37, 39-37, and 40-36.
Taggart, who was coming off of two close draw's in his last bouts,
left his corner like a bullet at the bell with thudding combinations
which caught Whiting off guard. Taggart seemed to have no plans
of leaving the fight to the judges this time as the assault lasted
for the better half of the first round. Whiting did his best to
stay composed and was able to sneak hard sporadic shots in of his
own until Taggart's pace slowed.
Taggart continued to land ram like combinations to the head and
body early in round two. Again, Whiting hung tough while jabbing
and moving until Taggart's punch output slowed. Taggart was on his
game most of the fight which may have over shadowed the fact that
Whiting gave his most solid performance of his career and showed
again that he is much better then his record shows. The two battled
it out until the final bell with the crowd behind every punch.

Jamal James of Minneapolis won his pro debut by breaking down Justin
Danforth (6-16) with hard and accurate punches until the ring doctor
would not allow Danforth to continue in the third.
James showed a wide arsenal of speedy, powerful punches as he hurt
and rocked Danforth. However, At 36, the southpaw Danforth showed
a big heart and a steel chin for remaining on his feet throughout
the bout despite the punishment he received.
The end came after a brutal body punch on the tail end of a number
of head shots hunched Danforth over before the referee could break
up the action. The bout was stopped on the advice of the ring doctor
soon after while Danforth pleaded for action to continue, with no
luck, as blood streamed from above his left eye.

Zach Schumach's pressuring attack swayed the judges in his favor
over Ryan Gronvold in a closely contested and exciting bout over
four rounds.
Schumach caught Gronvold cold early with a right to the head that
momentarily buckled his legs. Coming off a three year plus layoff,
Gronvold recovered and began to find his rhythm particularly behind
a halting jab as the bout progressed. Schumach remained the busier
fighter despite dropping his punch output as the bout went on. Gronvold
took advantage in round three, doing his best work with countering
shots but it would not be enough. Schumach moves to (2-2) while
Gronvold falls to (1-5). Scores read 40-36 and 39-37 twice.

Lucas St. Claire (2-1, 1 KO) stopped Lawrence Goodman (1-1) in the
opening round. St. Claire and Goodman both came out swinging heavy
hands. St. Claire landed a hard overhand shot to the head that stumbled
Goodman. Just as referee Mark Nelson was stepping between the two,
St. Claire landed a massive punch to the jaw that rocked Goodman
back to his corner. The bout was stopped as Goodman, still looking
dazed, protested the stoppage in the first round.

Charles Goodwin out bombed Romando Papsadora, stopping him in round
two. The two heavyweight each had success as they slugged it out
as the crowd cheered the seesaw street fight. Goodwin was the fresher
of the two going into the second round and began to take over with
hard head punches. After quite a bit of unanswered punishment, referee
Mark Nelson waived the fight off. It was the pro debut of both fighters.

Tyler Hultin forced Jesse Lewis to fold in round three. The bout
was switched to an exhibition at the weigh-ins when Lewis came in
12 pounds over the limit. Although way over the contracted weight,
Lewis was surprisingly trim and ripped which didn't look good for
Hultin at first glance. However, Hultin had complete control of
the match from the start with most of the crowd in the hall there
to support him. Hultin simply boxed and moved while the muscled
Goodman swung at air and gassed out in the process. Lewis, who had
a look of desperation on his face near the end of round two, never
made the bell for round three, retiring on his stool.
