KOLLE, VANDA SCORE KO'S FRIDAY NIGHT
BY JESSE KELLEY
AUGUST 7TH, 2010

Middleweight Andy "Kaos" Kolle (22-2, 16 KOs) needed just 91 seconds to demolish southpaw Daryl Salmon (16-5, 4 KOs) Friday night in Hinckley, MN. Kolle kept his opponent off balance with pressure until a crushing right hand to the jaw sent a smoked Salmon flopping to the canvas where he lay disoriented and unable to beat the count. Salmon came in 10 pounds heavy and somehow lost 4.5 pounds during Thursday’s weigh-in. Kolle admitted afterwards that he didn't think Salmon was going to be able to get up as soon as he landed the right hand. Kolle said he now looks to make a spash onto the National scene following the victory.

Matt "The Predator" Vanda (43-11, 23 KOs) scored a third round TKO over Jose Medina (15-20, 11 KOs). Medina showed up to fight and even landed a few wild, stinging shots in the bout but Vanda was happy to trade punches with his heavier opponent. Vanda began to dish out unanswered body and head shots late in round three, leaving Medina cornered and standing in a fetal position leaving referee Joe Cortez no option but to put an end to the bout at 2:57 of round three.

Unbeaten welterweight Michael Anderson moved to 7-0-1, 5 KOs with a third round stoppage of Hector Orozco (3-6, 0 KOs). Anderson dropped Orozco three time in the third round with body shots before referee Joe Cortez stopped the bout at 2:36. Anderson was hesitant for two rounds as Orozco traded evenly while the opportunity presented itself. The tide swayed Anderson's way in the third when he began to go to the body. Anderson was warned once in the round for going low but Orozco elected not to take the five minutes to recoup. The end came after the final body shot knockdown scored by Anderson.

In a clash of unbeaten bantamweights, “The San Diego Kid” Chris Martin (19-0-2, 5 KOs) surprised world-ranked Chris Avalos (16-1, 13 KOs), taking a ten round split decision in a televised bout. Martin simply outboxed Avalos, compiling a 98-92, 97-93 advantage on two cards. The other card was 98-94 for Avalos. Avalos seemed to throw a higher number of punches but could not match the power and accuracy of Martin's attacks. Martin put a stamp on an impressive performance with a left to the head that shook Avalos just before the final bell. Martin does not take the NABO bantamweight belt however after failing to make weight.

Undefeated Freddie Roach-trained cruiserweight Lateef “Power” Kayode (13-0, 12 KOs) scored his 12th consecutive knockout against Alfredo Escalera, Jr. (18-3-1, 12 KOs), the son and namesake of the former world champion. Kayode dominated the fight and got the stoppage after dropping Escalera at the end of round eight. Kayode grew more and more confident following each round as he taunted and outmuscled a fading Escalera, who bravely absorbed heavy punches until the end. The bout was officially stopped at :01 of round nine.

Comebacking heavyweight Maurice “Sugar Moe” Harris (24-14-2, 10 KOs) upset IBF #15 rated Nagy Aguilera (16-4, 11 KOs), taking a twelve round unanimous decision during a non televised bout. Aguilera was the aggressor early on and continued to seek a knockout blow for much of the 10 rounds, but Harris was able to keep Aguilera at bay behind a solid jab as he outboxed him down the stretch to claim a 117-111, 117-111, 115-113 win and the vacant USBA title. It was Harris’ biggest win since winning the 2002 Thunderbox Heavyweight Tournament.
