Middleweight Caleb Truax (8-0 5 KO's) Returns to action on November
28th in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Truax was preparing to face tough
brawler Nate Martin but revealed that Martin has pulled out of their
scheduled meeting. MinnesotaBoxing.com caught up with the Osseo,
MN native to discuss his thoughts on his last bout against Bobby
Kliewer, his upcoming fight and his thoughts on facing some of Minnesota's
other well known middleweights...
You faced Bobby Kliewer last time out in August. What are your
thoughts on that fight?
My game plan in the Kliewer fight was to start fast and not let
him get comfortable. I knew his style was
crazy awkward so there was no surprises coming in but once the bell
rang I was just too cautious trying to avoid one of those big looping
shots. After the 2nd round my corner got on my ass and told me to
let my hands go. 23 seconds and a left hook later the fight was
over. The fight didn't start the way I wanted but I got the stoppage
I wanted.
Recently you spent time working with Jaidon Codrington, Shane
Mosely and Enrique Ornales. Describe your experience working with
those guys at a famous place like Big Bear in California.
Big Bear was a great experience! Period! Sparring with Enrique and
working out side by side with Mosley and Codrington was kind of
surreal to a dude who just stared boxing 4 years ago. I took alot
from the trip, little tricks of the trade, new training and diet
techniques, the importance of body punching and applying pressure
and just kinda the sense of the work it takes to get to the next
level.
You will be facing Nate Martin on November 28th. What do you
know about Martin and what type of fight are you expecting?
On the 28th my opponent won't be Nate Martin, he pulled out because
he said he didn't have enough time to train, which I respect and
understand completely. I believe I will face him on a Seconds Out
show sometime in January though and I'm looking forward to a tough
fight. I'm not sure who my opponent will be yet but Ron (Lyke) and
Tony (Grygelko) will find someone. Whoever it is, fans can look
forward to a more aggressive and technically sharp Caleb Truax.
My coach Tom, Ron, and Jim have me moving forward with the jab,
concentrating on digging to the body early, working inside and all
the while staying more tight defensively than in the past. I can't
wait to show MN what I have picked up on in the past few months
up at Big Bear and here at ACR!
Minnesota boxing fans are itching for a huge local showdown.
How close are you to fighting some of the other Minnesota middleweights?
There should be alot of opportunities for big instate fights in
the near future for me. MN hasn't had a big instate fight since
(Andy) Kolle - (Matt) Vanda and I think fans are anxious to see
how I will fare against Lowry, Kolle, and Kost. Those are all fights
I would love to be apart of in the near future. All I have to do
is keep improving and winning fights and I feel I'll be in the position
to take those guys on soon.
