Kost
Prepared For Gonzalez
March 27th, 2008
By Jesse Kelley
Kenny Kost (13-3, 6 ko's)
will headline the boxing portion of this Saturdays boxing/mma fight
card at the Myth Nightclub in Maplewood, MN. Kost who has been staying
more active in the ring as of late, will face 25 year old Puerto
Rican Jorge Alberto Gonzalez (5-2, 0 ko's). Not much is known about
Gonzalez but word around town is that he had a successful amateur
career and possesses quick hands.
With the fight only days away, MinnesotaBoxing.com caught up to
Kost at
the WBL
boxing gym during a workout to
discuss the upcoming fight and also his thoughts on whether he thinks
a fight with Minnesota's other top Middleweights will happen in
the future.
I understand opponents have changed for this fight. Jeff Osborne,
now Jorge Alberto Gonzalez, and a few in between. Talk about the
opponent changes leading up
to this fight.
I have had a few different opponents thrown at me for this one.
It seemed like most of them were light heavyweights and bigger guys
though and I have been walking around lately at 162 pounds. I am
on track to be fighting at 156 or 158 for fights right now. Gonzalez
was the only guy that wanted to fight and 160 was as low as he would
go. Everyone else wanted to fight at 168 which is just too heavy
now.
Talk about Gonzalez
a little then. What can you tell us about him.
I don't really know a whole lot about him. I hear he was a really
good amateur. I hear he has some speed and he can move pretty well.
That is about it though!
There are some potentially
big fights here in Minnesota. A fight with Minnesota middleweight
champion Anthony Bonsante has been discussed but it seems money
has been the road block. Will that fight happen?
Yeah, that is the fight I want. I know Tony (Grygelko) is going
to try to make it happen around May or June. I hear Bonsante has
been back in the gym, trying to get more active so hopefully it
will happen.
A Vanda rematch has
been discussed. Also, a fight with Andy Kolle seems logical considering
you both are coming off a win over Vanda...
Andy Kolle is a fight I would like to see happen if the Bonsante
fight doesn't happen. I guess I don't know if they want to take
the fight but if they do then we can fight. If they don't then whatever.
There have been rumors
floating around that you possibly have something lined up out of
state also. Can you talk about that?
Well they were talking about having us go down and spar with Hector
Camacho Jr. They wanted Jesse (Garza) to go down and help train
him for a fight coming up so we might be down there doing that at
the end of April, maybe fight on the undercard to Camacho's fight.
