HOLT READY TO DULL SHARPE
By Jesse Kelley

Detroit Lakes' Chris Holt (12-7) will travel to Winnipeg, MB to battle Canadian Larry Sharpe (16-4) this Friday, January 26th. The fight will be part of a boxing/mixed martial arts show at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
Holt is currently finishing up his studies to become a personal trainer but says he just couldn't completely stay away from boxing, so he took the fight with Sharpe.
MinnesotaBoxing.com ran into "The Incredible" Holt at the Uppercut gym in Minneapolis as Holt was preparing for his upcoming fight. Here is what Holt had to say about his meeting with Sharpe and the road ahead...

How long have you known about this fight? How much time have you had to prepare?
I found out about this fight about a month and a half ago. I am pretty busy with my life right now but I can't give up boxing all together right now.

Last time we talked you were going to school to be a personal trainer, is that what is still keeping you busy?
Yeah I am still working on getting certified to be a personal trainer so that has kept me in good physical shape. I started coming down to the UpperCut gym to help Tony Bonsante get ready for his fight as well as get myself ready for this fight so it kind of worked hand in hand.

Have you watched Larry Sharpe fight before?
I have seen Larry Sharpe fight one time in Thief River Falls. He is ok, you know, I think that was more of an exhibition that he did that night. But yeah I have seen him fight and he does have some skills. He knows how to box. I don't want to take anything away from him.

You know your own strenghths. What do you think your advantages are against Sharpe?
I am going to be stronger. I am in great shape. I think it is going to be tough for him to match up with me strength for strength. When I hit him, he is going to know that I am there. I am going to let him know that. I think it is going to be a good fight. We match up well against each other. He's had 20 fights, I have had 19 fights. He has fought some great guys and I have fought some great guys. That is what makes this fight that much more exciting.

You talked about this fight being on tv with me earlier. Will the fight be available to us to watch here in Minnesota?
As far as I know, the fight will be televised nationally on Canadian pay per view. I just love it because I get to travel to his hometown and fight him in front of his friends and family. I checked out the internet after his last fight and he seemed pretty cocky after that fight. I am assuming he is going to bring that same kind of cockiness in there with him. It doesn't bother me though because I just want to let him know that if he is going to be cocky, then I will throw down with him.

It seems like I am asking you and all the other Middleweights in Minnesota about fighting each other. I hope this questions isn't getting old but with all the potential matchups for you in this state, are you looking to fight the Kosts or Vandas, Kolles, any of them out there? Maybe even try to get your state title back?
Possibly. Right now I just want to get through school. Of course when that is all said and done I will be back! I will be back and ready to throw down with anybody out there. Vanda, Kolle, Kost, I will be ready to get busy with it.

How much longer do you have until you are done with school?
I will be done in April.
