GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY APPROACHES FOR TRUAX
January 5th, 2012
By Jesse Kelley

In approximately 15 days, 11 hours, and 25 minutes of this writing, "Golden" Caleb Truax (18-0-1, 10 KO's) will put his undefeated record on the line in front of a nationally televised Showtime audience against Brandon "Flawless" Gonzales (15-0, 10 KO's). The bout will take place at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas.

Truax's has been learning "on the job" as a pro since 2007 after a successful but brief amateur career was cut short. With 19 bouts now under his belt as a pro including wins over experienced road warriors and local well known fighters such as Andy Kolle and Phil Williams, Truax says he is ready test himself against a Nationally known prospect. And that test will come on January 20th against Gonzales. Aside from being undefeated himself as a pro, Gonzales is a former US National amateur team member who was once rated first in the Nation in his weight class.

Yet Truax says he is the one that went looking for the Sacramento, California resident Gonzales.

"I watched Gonzales fight (Ossie) Duran on Shobox in October and thought I would match up well with him so I told my team to try and make the fight. They've worked with Goossen-Tutor in the past so it was made easily.
I thought the fight with Duran was a quality fight for Gonzales. Duran is tough as nails and a hard test for any middleweight. That fight provided me with some good film to study to try and get a feel for what Gonzales likes to do in the ring.
I know he had a good amateur career, I think he started late like I did, so we are in similar spots in our careers. Other than that I don't know much about him, and don't really care to.
I couldn't be more excited about fighting on Showtime. This is a step in my career that I've been aiming for since I began. I'm also excited that the fight will be in Las Vegas. It will be my first time fighting there and again, this has been a goal of mine since I decided to turn pro."

Fans can tune in to see the Truax-Gonzales bout on Friday, January 20 live on the Showtime cable network.

Truax added "I can't wait to bring back a big win for MN boxing fans. And if you're looking for a place to watch the fight, head to Malone's Bar & Grill in Maple Grove. If you need to get somewhere warm in January, make the trip to the Palms Casino!"

Journalist Ray Kilgore recently talked more with both Truax and Gonzales. Interviews with the fighters will be posted in the coming days.
