TAGGART VS KILFIAN TONIGHT IN HINKCLEY
September 9, 2011
By Jesse Kelley

Friday nights fight card at the Grand Casino in Hinckley has the potential to be one of the best all MN undercards in years. Aside from the televised main events, Jeremy McLaurin moves to the featherweight division to battle Gary Eyer. Tony Lee will now rematch Hector Orozco, and Al Sands faces TJ Gibson.
But no Hinckley boxing show would seem right these days without local slugger Tim Taggart Jr. mixing it up on the card. Taggart is never in a dull match and this Friday sees him moving up to the light heavyweight division to face recognizable and tested Wisc/MN fighter Harley Kilfian.

Taggart fought Saint Paul's Cerresso Fort last May in Hinckley and as usual went out guns blazing. Taggart shared his thoughts on that bout with Fort.

"I was trying to find my groove and measure him out in the first round and he caught me with a flash knockdown towards the end of the round. I wasn't hurt but was caught off balance. I started to find my groove in the second round and started catching him with some good shots. He got me with a good counter (knocked down). I felt like I could still go on but the fight was stopped. I give Fort all the credit though, he is a great, great fighter."

Tonight's bout with Kilfian will be Taggart's highest weight as he makes the jump from Super Middleweight to Light Heavyweight. Taggart was actually the bigger man though at last nights weigh-ins (Taggart 175, Kilfian 172) and he feels like the added weight will help him in the ring.

"I know Kilfian is taller and a little bigger but I feel great at this weight as well" said Taggart last week. I walk around at 193 (when not fighting) so cutting down to 163 or 166 has been draining in the past. I learned a lot from the last fight and feel better as a fighter. I don't like to take easy fights and that is why I am fighting Harley Kilfian. I fight for the fans and the fans love a good fight. They deserve to get a good show."

"I just want to thank MSC/RDS Promotions and Minnesotaboxing.com for the support and gratitude. Thanks to The Grand Casino Hinckley for the love and loyalty. Also I want to send thanks and love to my family and my fiance Shannon Segarra as well as my boys Ashton and Max. Without them I am not here today. Finally, thanks to my fans, love all of you for the support. My coach Tony Norlander just started a new gym called Total Carnage MMA and Boxing so come check it out in Pine City. I hope everybody enjoys the fight and has a good time!"
