ANDERSON
CONFIDENT IN HIS FIGHTER
November 4th, 2011
By Jesse Kelley

Minnesota's favorite underdog "The Fighting Chihuahua" Hector Orozco will step through the ropes in front of a televised audience (Telefutura) as he faces undefeated Golden Boy Promotions prospect Hugo Centeno Jr. within hours from now.

Orozco and trainer Rick Anderson know they have taken a risk in taking the bout with Centeno Jr, who will have experience, size, and hometown advantage among other things over the Minnesotan tonight. But Anderson says the decision to take the fight was very calculated and that the rewards for a big performance could pay off.

"In order to accomplish big things, you have to take chances" said Anderson. "I think this one is going to pay off. I am really confident in that. If things go well in this fight, which I think they will, we have already gotten several different offers with opportunities. We know he (Centeno) is a good fighter that brings with him all the accomplishments he had as an amateur. We know we are facing a bigger, taller opponent. This guy is 6'1 and we know he is for real. A big part of boxing is taking chances. And we believe that this fight is a good chance because of the exposure and opportunities that will come if Hector performs well. I believe Hector is going to test him more then he has been tested as a pro. What Hector is willing to do in the ring and with him being as scrappy as he is, I think he is going to push this kid further then he has ever been in the past. I feel good about our chances.

Orozco has been impressive particularly in his most recent bouts. The 23 year old seems to grow leaps and bounds with each new fight. And fans are starting to take notice. Orozco has given accomplished locals Jamal James, RJ Laase and most recently Tony Lee all they could handle in the ring. Against Lee, Orozco seemed to add size and power to his frame. Something Anderson says the two have been working on in the gym.

"There are things that we have been working on that he has worked through in the last couple of weeks so he has improved even more since the Lee fight. And we are hoping that stuff is going to show tonight (against Centeno). He has really made some big break through's in the last few weeks.Hector has been on a weight training program to build muscle and improve his punching power. His power has definitely increased. Even his sparring partners have noticed. He has been sparring with guys that are 170, 180 pounds and he can bang with these guys. Muscling up a little bit will help in this fight I believe. But really it is Hector's ability to acclimate what I throw at him during training that is so impressive. He is just so eager to listen and learn. Hector's work ethic is what I believe really makes him standout and that is a big part of the reason he has been successful against those guys."

It will be the first fight for Orozco under the big lights of television and having eyes around the world on him when he fights in what is a co-featured bout. Anderson says however that Orozco (who was resting when I spoke with Rick on the phone earlier this afternoon) is calm and focussed heading into the biggest fight of his career.

" We definitely have to go through some adjustments to prepare for this but I think Hector is comfortable with what is ahead. He is real focussed and excited, especially because his friends and family back home will actually have the chance to watch. It is very important to Hector to try to bring a victory back home. It is important to both of us to bring a win back to the state of Minnesota for everybody and that is what we have come here to do. "
