LITZAU: "THIS IS MY TIME"
June 15th, 2011
By Jesse Kelley

"God has a plan for us all and I truly believe this is my time. Broner is going to have to wait another day for his."

Those were the last words Jason Litzau spoke to Minnesotaboxing.com last week following one of his final sparring sessions prior to leaving for Guadalajara, Mexico for this Saturday nights showdown with Adrien "The Problem" Broner.

The two super featherweight contenders meet on the HBO televised undercard headlined by WBC World Super Welterweight Champion Canelo Alvarez as he makes his first defense against England's Ryan Rhodes.

Like his life outside of the ring, Litzau's ring career has had as many ups and downs as a high speed roller coaster ride. Litzau (28-2, 21 KOs) was written off as being tough but limited, following defeats to Jose Hernandez and Robert Guerrero. But rather then fall into that label, Litzau reinvented himself in 2009 with an emphasis on defense and ring intelligence as he went on a 6-0 streak that included wins over Rocky Juarez and Cellestino Caballero. Now, Litzau, 27, looks to position himself for a major world title shot this Saturday with a win over 21 year old up-and-comer Adrien Broner.

"I am sure Broner will be great someday, but there's no way in hell this is his time," said Litzau. "He hasn't been through half the stuff I have in the ring. I've been through it all. I feel like my performances keep getting better each time. Juarez, Caballero, and now I am ready to give an even better performance on June 18th."

How does Litzau plan on accomplishing a victory over the unbeaten Broner?

"Broner is slick," Litzau admits. "I know he had a controversial victory over (Ponce) De Leon but I've got a great game plan for him. Actually I have about five game plans waiting for him.

"I've never been ready for a fight inside and outside of the ring like now. I am 100% a professional boxer, that's what I do now. I don't talk bad about other fighters and I have nothing bad to say about Broner. It doesn't matter if a fighter is 20-0 or 1-100, I am going to train hard. Boxing is two men giving it their all. Every fight is going to be different. I will be 150% and he will be 150% and we are going to take care of the fans. You know 'The American Boy' always brings his best and that is all that matters to me. Not what Broner has or hasn't done in the past. "

Litzau says sparring partners with speed and slickness have been the main emphasis for his team heading into the bout with Broner. Litzau brought in 15-1 Philly fighter Rashiem Jefferson as well as New Jersey's Chris Green to be among the boxers to help prepare him for Broner.

" I have perfect sparring partners for this fight," says Litzau. "Rashiem Jefferson, Chris Green, and a mystery boxer that is a spitting image of Broner. This mystery man knows Broner so I won't put his business out there like that by stating his name but I brought in the perfect sparring partners for this fight. There is nothing I could have done different to get ready for this fight.

"Now it's time to give the fans a show like 'The American Boy' always does."
