TRUAX READY FOR ECHOLS TONIGHT!
By Jesse Kelley
June 11th, 2010

Middleweight "Golden" Caleb Truax (14-0-1, 9 KOs) takes on experienced veteran Antwun Echols (32-12-4) of Davenport, IA tonight in Saint Paul.
It seems Echols has been on a slide over the years, which is true. But a closer look at his record reveals that over his past 21 fights since facing Anthony Ivory (26-49) in 2000 has been against prospects, contenders and champions such as Bernard Hopkins with a combined record of 431 wins 68 losses (with the exception of his most recent fight, a win over Fred Thomas (0-9). So what does all this mean for Truax?

"Echols is a dangerous vet who knows his way around the ring" said Truax when asked for his thoughts on Echols. "I'm excited to be in with a tough fighter with a resume like Echols. It will be a good test for me and I should learn a veteran trick or two".

Minnesota fans that were lucky enough to see Echols in June against Phil Williams know that at 38, Echols can still bring excitement to the ring. Although it was Williams' shinning moment, winning a seesaw battle by knockout in round seven, Echols showed that he still possesses the power and skills to upset any prospect on a given night.

So Echols does pose a threat to squash Truax's plans to impress tonight. However, Echols was not the first fighter sought for tonights main event as Truax explained.
" Echols was chosen because I had two other opponents drop out. I welcome the change though because Echols is a tougher fight than the other two fighters would have been and will be better for my career."

Last time out, Truax fought to a stalemate with Phil Williams at the very same Armory and ring he will meet Echols in tonight. That bout turned out to be a boxing match that both fighters feel they won hands down.
" I have had the chance to watch the tape a few times and after seeing the film I thought I won the fight more convincingly than I did immediately after. Looking back, I would have been more aggressive and used the jab more but I thought my movement was on point and I thought I boxed well overall. A rematch is definitely something I'd be interested in. I hear Phil is eager to fight again too so hopefully Seconds Out can put something together soon to get us back in action."

Before any talks of Williams, or his future, Truax maintains that he is fully aware of the dangers Echols presents and is focussed on walking out of the ring tonight with a dominating decision or a stoppage win.
" Everyone come out to the St. Paul Armory Friday night, June 11th" Truax added. "The entire card should feature great bouts and should be an exciting night of Minnesota boxing."
