KOLLE ANXIOUS FOR FRIDAY
BY JESSE KELLEY
AUGUST 5TH, 2O1O

Andy Kolle (21-2, 15 KO's) is set to face Alabama southpaw Daryl Salmon (16-4) tomorrow night at the Grand Casino as the Showtime cable network brings it's boxing series back to Hinckley, MN.
When the camera's begin to roll, the lights will be shinning bright on prospects Chris Avalos and Lateef Kayode as the two are featured in the two separate TV slots.
However, the boxing fans that are sure to pack the Grand Casino ballroom will be there in numbers to see Kolle attempt to pick up his fifth straight victory.

Kolle successfully defended his MN state middleweight title in Hinckley this past April with a convincing victory over Matt "The Predator" Vanda over ten rounds of action. Both Kolle and Vanda are improved fighters since their first meeting in 2007 but Kolle's victory in April left no doubt about where the belt should remain.

"Vanda is a tough guy but we just figured out his style and stuck with the game plan." Said Kolle. "I was ready for anything that night and I didn't want there to be any doubt of who won the fight so I just fought my fight and countered on Vanda all ten rounds. Vanda has gotten better since our first fight but I have been in the gym on a daily basis. Not just training, but honing the craft and learning new things and getting more comfortable with the style that works for me. I have worked extensively on my defense and foot work since I have lived in Duluth full time. I feel that I am a more well rounded fighter now using all the punches in my arsenal rather than waiting to land a big punch."

While Kolle versus Vanda was interesting because of the clash in style's and physical appearance, Kolle and Salmon should prove interesting of Friday night because of their similarities. Salmon, like Kolle is a tall, rangy, counter punching southpaw.
"I don't know much about Daryl. He started his career with 16 straight wins and then fought very tough competition in his last four fights and lost them. I feel that he knows he has to win this fight if he wants to get the bigger fights with the bigger paydays, so I know he is going to come and try to kick my ass right away. I feel he is going to try and make a statement but that is also my plan." Kolle continues; "The only fight I have seen of him is against Joe Greene in which he was stopped in the first round, so its hard to gage a fighter by one round. I know he is a tall, lanky, lefty and that is about it. But that is all I need to know, the rest can be figured out in the ring on Friday night."

As for beyond the Salmon fight, Kolle held back from giving any details. Rumors of a big show or a big matchup for Kolle continue circulate. Kolle's trainer Chuck Horton also wouldn't offer up any official details but promised something fun is looming. Recently, Kolle and his team welcomed a new addition to help when that time comes.
" Todd Bechtold (journalist and former editor of mnboxingleague) will be helping out in the managing/publicity part of things" said Kolle. "I feel he is a great person for the job and have full confidence that he will help my career tremendously, in and out if the ring. This is great because this also frees Chuck up so he can focus more of his time on the training aspect. I have a great feeling about the rest of this year. We plan on continuing our busy year and busting our way onto the national scene shortly.

You and your opponent weighed in earlier at 138 pounds. How do you feel at that weight?
I feel great. I used to fight at 132 at the Upper Midwest Tournaments but I am older now so 138 is perfect for me. I didn't have a hard time at all making the weight. I have been eating good. You know, this time, it's going to be a good fight for me. I am really in the best shape of my life. Jesse (Garza) and Sean (Hickman) have been training me for 4 weeks now. And these guys have been training me hard! My buddies Levi Cortes and Michael Faulk, these guys have been getting me ready for the fight and I am in really good shape. That makes me more confident than ever going into this fight

Best of luck tomorrow night Wilson, and I hope you bring a victory home to Minnesota!
I will, and thank you for the opportunity.
