"THE DOCTOR" MAKES HOUSE CALL
Robert "The Doctor" Kamya (17-10) travels to Brian Mihtar's hometown of Detroit, Michigan tomorrow night in hopes of bringing a road victory back to his current residence of Minnesota. The 37 year old Ugandan born Kamya has grown accustomed to making house calls, having fought a majority of his bouts against favored prospects. The fight with Brian Mihtar (12-1) would seem to be no different. But a victory by "The Doctor" on Saturday would be far from a miracle performed if you ask Kamya and his team. "He's (Mihtar) a younger fighter" said Kamya. "I know what it takes to be in the ring with a younger fighter though. This is his hometown so I know he is going to come at me. Mentally I am prepared more then ever because I know it is a big show and I know what a win does for me at this point in my career. I am going for the win." Kamya has not only gained valuable experience throughout
his 27 fights as a professional. It is sparring sessions with the late "I have made so many changes since the last time in the ring against Josh Rodriquez. I was just coming back from a layoff of a year. That was a comeback fight for me. I won the fight but I wasn't where I am at now physically. Right now I feel so good. I am 37 years old and putting the best work and training of my career together while working with Ugandan National stars like Ismail Muwendo and Mohammed Kayongo and young fighters like Robert Brant (number 1 rated US amateur light-heavyweight)." Most recently, Kamya was set to main event locally against Middleweight Jon Schmidt in Saint Paul. Injuries to Schmidt derailed the fight but trainer Scott Tolzmann says that door is potentially still open despite keeping their focus on this fight. "Most importantly, our sites are set nowhere but on Brian Mihtar" said Tolzmann. "Schmidt and his team are still interested in that fight so there is no doubt that it can still happen. Another guy that wants to fight Kamya is Andy Kolle. So there are other fights around here that we are interested in but Mihtar is number one because this victory can set up big things out there for us. Robert has been here before. It was not Alex Bunema's plan to come up short against Robert Kamya and we are going to do that again with Mihtar." Also making the trip to Detroit is Hastings Boxing team
member Vicente Alfaro. Vicente earned his first professional win against
tough fighter Jake Backus last year in Saint Paul and looks to earn
another against Ron Siler. Siler, 29, is a former amateur star who represented
the United States at the 2004 Olympics where he competed at flyweight.
After six years away from boxing, Siler won his pro debut in January.
