Bonsante Still Rolling!
By Jesse Kelley
October 8th, 2007
Anthony Bonsante had about
as tough of a "stay busy" opponent you will find in Kendall
Gould last August in Hinckley. In the end, Bonsante swept most of
the 8 rounds of action but the slick style of Gould forced the best
out of The Bullet. Bonsante's gritty performance proved once again
that his wheels haven't slowed. Bonsante recapped his fight with Gould
and also talked about his future plans via telephone interview. Here
is what Bonsante had to say.
You got cut over your left eye in the fifth round in your last
fight against Kendall Gould. To me it looked pretty bad, was it
a serious cut?
No, not too bad. I got a few stitches but it should be just fine.
It bleed pretty bad but it wasn't anything serious. Bill and Lisa
did a very good job of stopping the bleeding between rounds.
It was tough to tell from my angle how it happened but referee
Mark Nelson said afterwards it was from a punch. Did the cut open
up a past cut or was it just a good punch?
No, it was from a right hand, it just tore it open. It was a nice
shot.
Gould showing up to fight like he did may have been a surprise
to people watching but you talked prior to the fight about how good
Kendall could be. Talk about that a little bit.
I knew he was going to show up and I knew it was going to be a tough
fight. I also knew I probably wasn't going to be able to knock him
out. The one thing I was happy with though is how I busted him up
to the body. I did catch him with a real good uppercut also. But
yeah, Kendall was a real good amateur fighter with over 300 fights
so I knew that if I was the aggressor that I would be able to outpoint
him. I think he might have won two rounds, the second and the sixth.
You talked about not being able to knock him out but you were
laying it on him pretty good, especially in the last round. If you
had another round or two do you believe he was getting ready to
go?
Well you and I both know that I don't let up on the gas in the last
rounds. I get stronger as the fight goes on so I probably would
have gotten him out of there if the fight was ten rounds. But Kendall
is tough. He rarely gets stopped so you never know.
Kenny Kost was brought out to the ring before your fight to
talk about possibly facing you in the near future. I know that is
something you would like to talk about
Yeah, I didn't even hear about that until afterwards. I think it
is kind of funny though that he didn't even fight on the card yet
he was there to call me out. He doesn't strike me to be the type
of person that usually puts themselves out there to call somebody
out so I definitely think there were some outside influences there.
Whether that be somebody inside or outside of his camp
Is a fight with Kenny Kost something that you are looking for?
I look at it as Kenny is 12-3. He has 15 professional fights so
I'm not going to get a whole lot of money to fight him. It would
be for the Minnesota state title but I already have that. I could
retire right now and be the Minnesota state champion. Of course
I am not planning on doing that anytime soon. I have 42 fights which
is almost three times as many fights as he has. Is he deserving
of that fight right now? I don't know. I guess it depends on the
money. He doesn't necessarily have the experience to be demanding
the money they are asking for in my opinion. I am 30-9, I've been
on a reality show. I have the right to demand a little bit higher
purse. I don't know, if the fight comes around it comes around.
I would rather see him fight some guys first. I guess we will see.
What's up next for you?
I can still make middleweight so that is where I would like to fight.
If I have to fight at super middleweight and the circumstances are
right I can do that too. We are looking to get back in the ring
sometime in November whether that can be in Minnesota or somewhere
else.
