Uppercut hosts six amateur bouts Saturday May 20th 2006

Bout 1: 125lbs Hoshang Ismail (White Bear gym) vs. Ian Glover (St. Paul gym)

Rd-1- Glover comes out the aggressor landing hard shots while Ismail moves and jabs also landing hard shots as well in a close Rd. In between the rounds, Ismail suffers from stomach cramps and tells his coach, "I've shouldn't ate that hotdog."

Rd-2-Both boxers come out strong trading hard shots. Glover lands three hard shots but Ismail isn't fazed, and lands a hard right of his own and throws awkward uppercuts to end the Rd.

Rd-3- Glover comes out the aggressor and lands hard shots but Ismail counters with hard shots of his own while landing 1-2 combos to end the round.
End Result: Ismail wins on points

 

 

Bout 2: 107 lbs Tony Knutson (Mpls) vs. Travis Zerwas (Anoka)

Rd-1- Knutson comes out the aggressor but his aggression looks more like nervous energy. He throws punches with his head down, while Zerwas attempts to wait and land 1-2 combos. Knutson looks tired towards the end of round Rd 1.

Rd 2- Was similar to Rd 1 with Knutson moving forward but looking tired. Zerwas lands hard rights and at one point, rocks Knutson towards the end of the round.

Rd-3 Knutson comes out throwing a furry of punches but they are mostly arm punches. Knutson is more reactive as Zerwas comes forward with aggression. Towards the end of the round, both boxers look tired.
End Result: Zerwas wins on points.

 

Bout 3: 165lbs James Okoth (uppercut gym) vs. Justin Griffin White Bear gym


Rd-1 both boxers come out throwing power punches. Griffin is the aggressor and backs Okoth up several times landing hard rights; Okoth counters with his own 1-2 combos, and lands his own right hands that end a close round 1.

Rd-2 Griffin comes out the aggressor and lands several hard rights, but stats to look tired half way in the round. Okoth tries to counter Griffin's aggression with his own, and backs Griffin to the ropes and lands a 1-2 combo. Okoth looks tired now, and takes two deep breaths towards the end of another close Rd.

Rd-3 Okoth is visibly tired and off balance as he misses several shots. Griffin is the aggressor and lands 1-2 hard shots and moves forward most of the round, but Griffin also looks tired as well.
End Result: Okoth wins on points

 

 

Bout 4: 165lbs Jason Hendrickson (uppercut gym) vs. Gunther Maniffa (AIC gym)


Rd-1 Maniffa comes out the aggressor while Hendrickson picks his shots and tries to time Maniffa with a good punch. Both land hard shots and take turns being the aggressor to end Rd 1.

Rd-2 Hendrickson lands a hard right but Maniffa doesn't seem bothered by the punch. This round is similar to Rd 1 with Maniffa applying the pressure, and Hendrickson trying to time him with hard shots.

Rd-3 Maniffa is still the aggressor and applies pressure as Hendrickson ties him up several times and gets a warning for doing so. Hendrickson lands two hard rights, but again, Maniffa doesn't seem bothered by them.

Rd-4 Looks similar to the other three rounds with Maniffa being the aggressor and Hendrickson attempting to time him.
End Result: Maniffa wins on points

Bout 5: Super Hwt Mark Sienkilwicz (Twin Ports gym) vs. Bryan Wiltfang (Anoka gym)


Rd-1 both boxers come out strong but Wiltfang lands the harder punches. Wiltfang applies aggression and backs Sienkilwicz into the ropes several times. Witlfang lands a hard right that stunts Sienkilwicz who's given an 8 count. Sienkilwicz is OK to continue, and once the action resumes, he hits Wiltfang with a low blow and gets a warning which ends the round. In between rounds, Sienkilwicz looks much winded.

Rd-2 both boxers come out strong but Wiltfang lands a thunderous right that sends Sienkilwicz to the mat hard. Sienkilwicz struggles to make the 8 count, but does and is clearly buzzed and falls back into the ropes prompting referee Erikson to stop the bout in Rd 2.


End Result: Referee stops the contest in Rd 2 Wiltfang wins.


Bout 6: 141 lbs Corey Rodriguez (uppercut gym) vs. Tony Lee (Brunette's gym


Rd-1 Rodriguez comes running towards Lee as both boxers exchange fast pace punches. Lee tires to overwhelm Rodriguez with hand speed and 1-2 combos, but Rodriguez counters with his own hard rights and 1-2 combos as Rd 1 comes to an end.

Rd-2 both boxers continue their fast pace, but Rodriguez receives two warnings for hitting on the break. Lee throws a hard punch, but is off balance and is hit was a smashing right from Rodriguez. Both boxers clinch, and Rodriguez hits Lee again on the break causing referee Erickson to deduct a point from Rodriguez. After the point is taken, Lee hits Rodriguez with a hard right which dazes Rodriguez prompting referee to give Rodriguez an 8 count. Towards the end of the round, Rodriguez shows heart and hits Lee with a hard right to let him know he's still in the bout.

Rd-3 Rodriguez comes out the aggressor and lands the clearer shots. He lands 1-2 combos, and solid right hands. Lee was forced to clinch several times and adjusted his headgear.


End Result: Lee wins a decision. After the bout, Rodriguez's team was highly upset with referee Erikson claming Erikson didn't allow Rodriguez to box and was unfair. One of Rodriguez's coaches became verbally abusive towards Erikson and had to be escorted away from him. Also, fans of Rodriguez were angry as well and verbally shouted their frustration at Erikson from ringside.
