Lynch Ready To Deflate Ball!
By Jesse Kelley Buffalo, Minnesota's Joe Lynch has not taken the "typical" boxers road. With hardly any amateur boxing experience and a few No Holds Barred tournaments under his belt, he decided to turn professional in 2004. Lynch now has a record of five wins and one loss, two wins by knockout. His first professional fight was ruled a no contest after an accidental headbutt forced a premature ending to the bout. This Saturday Lynch will face another up and coming Minnesota fighter, taking on Rochester Minnesota's Scott Ball in the co-main event in Coon Rapids. We caught up with Lynch after Friday's weigh-ins to talk a little boxing.. Can you talk a little bit about how you got started? I heard you fought in the Tuff-Guy's before turning pro. Any amateur boxing experience? Actually, I did a few no holds barred fights. I had a few amateur fights, obviously not very many. My coach just saw that I had a tough guy mentality, you know, not afraid to get hit. He saw that I had good potential and decided to get me in there. You mention being tough and not afraid to get hit. For the people who have not seen you box, how would you describe your fighting style? I am definitly a very straight forward fighter. I like to put the pressure on. My style is very in your face. Im a brawler but really am starting to box a lot more now. You have fought some pretty solid fighters and even been on television already. Can you talk about some of the pro fights that have stood out to you? Well Ive fought in Chicago. You definitly cant go there looking for easy fights. I fought Carlos Molina who was a tough fight. Although I only had a weeks notice and had to drop weight. John tried to fill my head to just go in there and beat him up but it just didnt work out that way for me that night. There was Trinidad Garcia, who I fought twice on television. I really showed up ready both times and it showed with the two wins. Your opponent Saturday night is Scott Ball. Although he brings a perfect record, he hasnt fought out of state or the same quality of fighters you have yet as a pro. Do you think that will play a big part in this fight? I do, I really do. And I think he also knows that. Just in the way he is acting. Dropping the pounds and not giving me a pound at first. Then dropping the weight even lower. I think its going to have something to do with it. What type of fight plan are you going to be bringing? Im definitly going to be giving him 100%. Ive been sparring hard. Sparring with Mohammed Kayongo was a huge learning experience. He is his same weight but a lot better. What are your plans for the rest of the year? I dont like to look ahead but I really just want to show Minnesota that I can box. I am going to bring everything and I think they are going to enjoy the show. |
