Q&A with Brad Laffin! By
Greg Lowe
After seeing Brad Laffin
in his first two professional boxing matches, Fridley gets to watch him go after
his third knockout victory. One of the biggest things this knockout artist wants
to show is he can throw as hard as anyone. Rick "the Rock" Zufall (5-2
5Ko's) of Indiana knocked Brad Laffin to the canvas during the Mayday Mahem show
in the first round. Not only did Brad get off the canvas, he gave Zufall the biggest
beating of his career. In round two, Laffin came with a barrage of blows to Zufalls
head sending him right where he layed for the remander of the bout. After an awesome
display of power, Minnesota Boxing caught up with him to see what we can expect
this Saturday at the Minnesota Sports Cafe. Minnesota Boxing: Brad,
in your last bout you were knocked down in the first round, just to come back
and do the same to him. Was taking that shot the turning point for your victory?
Brad Laffin: At that point in time its either, your going to get up,
or your going to stay down. So I got up and knocked him out, when you see the
canvas noone wants to stay there. MB: For boxing fans who don't
know Brad Laffin, what can you tell them about yourself? BL: I'm
coming into the pros, looking to keep an undefeated record. I'm a boxer/puncher,
trying to knockout every one of my opponents on the way up. I feel as if I land
any punch, regardless of what hand it is, there is definitely going to be a change
in the fight, it just happens the last two were knockouts. MB:
Whats your training regiment looking like for this upcoming bout? BL:
During the day, the morning time, I come here (ACR boxing club) and work out for
a strong two to two and a half hours. Get in the hand pad work, bag work, and
the rope. Then I'll head home, go to work, then run three miles a night, monday
thru sunday. MB: I know your not looking past this fight, but if
you win, what does this mean for you? BL: It means that I am definitely
showing that I'm a force to be reckoned with. Being 3-0 with 3 KOs. It will move
me a step closer to being a contender. MB: As far as your fight
plan goes, are you expecting to knock him out early? BL: I'm going
in there and I'm going to do what I do best, and thats to let my hands fly. If
I knock him out early, then i do. I assume when I go after him, and I do put it
on him, then he's going to go. But if he doesn't, then I'll take it what ever
way it comes. MB: For a little backround information, how did you
start boxing and how old? BL: I've alway been around boxing ever
since I was young. My dad had boxed in the air force, down in Florida. We always
had the heavy bag and the speed bag hanging at our house as a kid growing up.
I was working at Consolidated Freitways, at the time, at that point I was getting
into a lot of extracurricular activites (chuckles), getting into a little bit
of trouble. My dad told me there is a guy by the name of Ron Lyke, that was an
excellent fighter, and he's up by where you work. He said if thats what you want
to do is fight all the time, why not turn it into a positive and put it in the
ring. So I asked Ron if he was training anybody, so he told me to come on down
to the gym and we'll see what you got and it took off from there. MB:
Before we close the interview, whats your prediction for the outcome of this fight?
BL: I definitely predict a victory. Odds are it will be by knockout,
at this point in my career I'll take it anyway I can get it. I've worked hard
and I've worked long, I predict that I'll win by knockout. Minnesota
Boxing wants to thank Brad for taking the time to talk with us. Next time we see
him it'll be in the ring this saturday at the Minnesota Sports Cafe, behind Wendys
on 65 and Osbourne in Fridley. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come out and
watch Brad Laffin become Minnesota's next big knockout threat. Brad will be boxing
in one of nine scheduled professional bouts, so until I see you this saturday
in Fridley, we'll keep it rockin.
